Hey, may be looking to buy my own server(s) to sell my own gameservers and/or webhosting.. how much would be the average price of a server? also, how many gameservers could be run off of one server from a datacentre? & lastly, do you recommend any places to buy these (i dont want a reseller account.. looking for a server from say a datacenter with terabytes of memory) Thanks.
terabits of memory ehh? good luck, I have yet to even hear of a server with more than a few gigabytes of ram, yet a lone a tera bit. as for HDD space, you should be fine with only a few hundred gigs, maybe a TB as anymore would be overkill, you might ebable to store all those files, buit the server would never be fast enough to put out that info. as for cost, 10-20,000$ if you go high end. 2-5 for lower end parts, then expect to spend 300-1000$ a month on a dedicated T3 connection, aybe two if you get enough trafic. assuming you want one single server to host everything, though it's typically cheaper to divide the load between several less powerful servers as opposed to one or two very powerful ones ================= if you want to run single game servers though, expect one server/game, if you're running older games like cs 1.6 you might be able to pull off hosting two if you have REALLY good hardware, expect to be dropping a few grand though. servers are expensive, particularly on the highend where you use several motherboards in an array and say 16 opteron processors.
I woulden't reccomend dropping that kind of money, unless you have a huge site that needs a dedicated server. I'd reccomend just purchasing high end web hosting, a hell of a lot cheaper.
