You get + repped when you do something that people like. Like helping someone with a problem, or render images, make tutorials etc.

If you do something people don't like, they wil -rep you. That could be if you ripped something or if you are a jerk.

You can rep someone when you have 150 posts.

When you do something good for someone else giving you a (pos)rep point is a means of appreciation (like if you do something for free and stuff, despite the fact 75% of the people on this site are negative and only -rep others and forget about (pos)repping others).

Negative repping occurs when your a smartass, call someone names, act immature, say unneeded things, etc. and its a way of telling other people that your an immature jackass (seemingly no one appears to forget about -repping others, they just dont (pos) rep others).

You need 150 posts in order to rep both (pos) and - rep. The more (pos) rep you have and the less -rep you have, the more trustworthy you are.

Its basically all covered in the forum FAQs here:
    http://www.gamerenders.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=198922

The pinned topics are here for a reason, despite what the new people here may think, they DO carry some information that could be valuable to you.
