Ok, so it is definately time for me to reformat since I have never done this on our computer. I need to know some stuff.

The things I want to keep are:

Adobe PS, Imageready, Illustratpor, Acrobat Reader etc.
    MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc.
All my Steam games (and if possible the skins I have for CS:S)
    All my music
All my documents (pictures, word docs etc.)

Um, those are the main things I think, is there anything else I should copy to CD?

I've heard about partitions and I don't know what they are really, something to do with a space on your HDD.

So, I put the XP boot disk in and then is it easy enough for an idiot to follow?

And when it is formatted will I have Windows XP SP2 still on the computer or do I need to reinstall Windows too...?

    Thanks for the help.

^these can be re-installed from disk.

    ^not sure on that

^yes, you would want to save those

maybe backup installers for your progs, unless you want to spend time re-downloading them

I've heard about partitions and I don't know what they are really, something to do with a space on your HDD.

Think of it as a pie. If you split in in half, you have two halves, 2 'partitions'. that's what you are doing to the drive, only that if you have a 40gb drive, and you split uit into two, you have 2 20gb drives. clear enough?

So, I put the XP boot disk in and then is it easy enough for an idiot to follow?

if you read everything except the license, yep.

And when it is formatted will I have Windows XP SP2 still on the computer or do I need to reinstall Windows too...?

Does your XP CD include SP2? When you format, you wipe the drive, nothing is on it. Bye-bye! So, yeah, it will reinstall it right after it formats your drive

If any of this is confusing, feel free to PM or post a reply here.

Ok, I think I get it.

If I format it will reinstall XP without SP2 (because I DLed it) so I will just DL it again.

So it seems everything is sorted except the Steam games. If I can't somehow back em up I will have to DL Steam and logon to my account and DL HL2, CS:S, CS 1.6, CZ, DoD:S and Garry's Mod >_<

I dunno, I don't use Steam, .DeFuZioN can probably help you on that.

fonts aren't that big... but if you have certain ones you like, by all means, back em up
