I plan on reformatting my HD but I want to know some thing
Is it possible to keep the OS after formatting it or do I need to reinstall it?

I'll end up having more questions later...but oh well.

You will still have the OS. Nothing should happen to it.

please dont comment when you have no clue.

You lose everything when you format.

Because it always does. Thats what formatting means, clearing away everything.

The OS in in Drive\Windows as generally we are talking windows here.
You cannot format and then copy the original os back onto the drive. YOu just do a fresh install and copy old music files, etc back on off backed up cds.

reformatting a hardrive means having your hardrive reorderder and reorganize itself. in order to do that everything is wiped out, OS included. you can still use the same windows liscence, but you will need to reinstal windows and all drivers associated with your computer.

I always thought when you get a reformat disc it reformats your comp and then you go through certain procedures to install windows thats what my computer technician did with mine XD

Lol - people hu mke custom PC dont give their 'illegal' copy coz thats the only one they got :D except for me i bought a licensed one ;)

    Some people were clueless lol

Format erases everything AND I MEAN EVERYTHING-lol

You dont just put in the windows CD and it works

If not XP u need some other method but as most people got XP - You need to change the boot settings to CD first - Then it pop in the CD hit enter then it starts the Windows XP setup from there u can delete/create partition if necessary and it installs Windows ;)

    ;) I know my stuff
