i see what you all mean, but you say name influences. Is it the rating behind the name?

Well they go hand in hand really. It's about how famous you are, but of course your renown is going to spread when you start to get labeled as a p.ro.

That is to say, a totally unknown guy who comes and tries to sell an okay tag while advertising that he's rated p.ro will have more trouble selling than a well known semiprofessional selling a similar tag - at least that's what I believe.

That's saying that as long as you're well known for being highly rated, you can make crappy sigs, and people would still buy it, and that isn't right. But a unknown person can make a highly skilled/appealing tag and won't sell..? :\

I know i have seen it, people are obsessed with rating not appearance, if they went by appearance the i can make a tag with ugly shapes, ruin it with scanlines, and add a render and sell it for 1.2k

    Im going to be onest....

If im scrolling down the action room list and I see big names im more likley to go on that thread than someone iv never heard of.

I tend to go for name more because I know if I did try and sell it, its what other people will buy.

But saying this if I see a sig that I dont like the look of, I wont buy it.

If it looks good and is made by a well known person, you know the sig is going to sell well.

Even a sig that doesnt look that good but is made by someone well known will sell better than a great looking sig made by someone knowone knows.

And this is that way the auction room is run and to be onest I dont like it, because it means its hard to sell things I make and some people are make loads off sigs that dont even look that good.

Dude, I've seen "pros" sell ------ looking sigs for 1k+ xD

But I'm just saying that to choose some average looking tag using the same techniques as everyone else from a well known person rather than a good looking tag with unused techniques from someone whos a stranger is rather stupid. But hey..Since theres so many trend whores who want to copy a "---", then this is the optimal way of making credits, as ------ed up as it may be.

well, it also has a lot to do with the GR economy. i don't really have much incentive to buy anything at GR, but i like to keep a good amount on hand.

seems to me that the main activity is buying FR tags to tut, then selling the tut. so quite a few people are acting as "middlemen", buying high level tags, and then selling them for more creds. the cycle continues, but i don't really see the benefits.

pluses: middlemen get to see PSD/XCFs of high level artists
middlemen get lots of credits to buy MORE tags to tut.

minuses: unrated or unknown artists are ignored
certain popular artists' styles are whored, creating the well known "trends".
people pay a lot to learn a style that everyone else is learning, therefore, new creative stuff is quashed.

i'm rather ambivalent about the entire deal.

True, another thing is that the tutorial writers get to look at the PSD's too and learn from them.

    pepsi 4 stayge china;

Eh, as I have already said before, I really loved your work when you were like, mod or something like that. I mean, you sucked, rank-wise. Yet, I totally loved your work.
    (Phenom)

Normally I have to sell my tags for 50 credits each one on Offers and Requests. I think the name is also something behind selling tags.
Btw, Phenom, done with the collab yet?

Well for some reason id just recently discovered the offers/requests forum even though iv been here ------ lurking for a year x_x If i had the creds/interest to buy a tag I would go on appearance. Theres some artists styles here that i really like, rated high or not.

Take me for example guys, being rated what i am, i have a high selling rate at GR.

would you rather buy a tag from me, even if its not the best, or would you buy a tag from someone new to GR, even if its better?

Well, they both serve each other. To get a high rating, it has to look good. But I would have to say looking good.

    yeah people will do that.

I used to love the way you and Eccentric made tags. It was so unique, but now it's same old same old. Like the there are some peeps on NSL, that I hope they dont come here and sell tags. Because people will just follow it exactly, and it will becomes same old same old.
