hi, I was wondering about what RAM to buy. I want to spend <100 dollars per stick and dont know what to get. I currently have "DDR2-SDRAM" (Info from CPU-Z) should I just go with more of the same or is there better cheaper RAM out there?
do you know what type of ram (PC3200 for example) you have? you might have to open your case and look at it. should say on a little sticker. or if you want all new ram, just look at your motherboards manual, and it should say which type..
for about 100$ USD a stick will get you at least a 1gb, if you look around and not just go to a normal electronics store. Look for your local computer shop if possible.
I would bump what you currently have up. As long as your machine is running fine , more will only make it run better. It wont make your computer any faster by adding faster ram, unless you get a major RAM upgrade. It might make it faster, but no one will ever notice.
Actually too much wont help ^ anyway, How much do you have allready? And what kind we need to know also..
I've just ordered a 512 mb stick of DDR2 ram from Tiger direct for $40. It's got good reviews, and I've bought from the brand before. And here is a 1024 MB (1 Gig) stick of the same kind, it's $85. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...p?EdpNo=1071038
Might want to double check on the manufactor website or the motherboard website on the RAM specifications. I have DDR2 also in my system and it has to be installed in pairs. So adding 1 stick of it wont do nothing but give you errors. I have bought 1G PQI Turbo DDR@ memory from Tiger Direct a while back and it only cost me $110. I am looking at a 2GB kit now that will run me $199. You also need to knwo the speed of your RAM. My spped is 4200. It does make a difference what you buy since most RAM slots wont allow you to install anything but the speed they are designed for. Unless you have a high end mobo that allows for multiple speeds. Even in that case if you have slower RAM installed now and buy faster RAM the new stuff will only operate at the slower speed.
You may also wanna make sure your processor doesn't bottleneck if you have too much RAM for it to handle. Posting your mobo, and cpu specs would help us analyze this a lot better for you.
what is the FSB of your computer processor, are you using dual channel ram right now, how much ram do you currently have, and what is it's clocks speed? if you use two diferent sped rams, your computer won't boot up. if you have dual channel ram and go to single channel, your computer will seem about half as fast.
