    Okay,

As of now I am running a really crappy Win XP comp, or as I like to call it, a calculator, partly because it only has 33gb of HD space, 90% of which is gone.. My system stats:

As you can see, it has 256mb of RAM right now, and only 26.60 is available right now, and all I have open are zone alarm, Norton, my computer and the system info tab, plus whatever programs are running in the background. Needless to say I should have opted for more harddrive space and RAM instead of the free printer ;( It is VERY slow.

I am looking to buy more RAM, and not spend more that $40.

This is the ram I am looking to see if the RAM I want to install is compatible with my computer.

My "Memory" screen, as seen in System Information, incase you need to know it for to see if it is compatible..

Here is the RAM - http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...13670&CatId=842 . Is this this RAM compatible? If not, which one would be?

Also, is it hard to install RAM? Is it just plug in and your done, or is there a bunch of instalation and stuff required as well? Does it require me to reformat or lose any information?

EDIT: Here is the computer I have, just instead of 80gb memory, I have 30.. http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/f...DHS1&l=en&s=dhs

    Thanks!

I can't tell you what kind of RAM you already have so I can't reccomend any RAM for you. But, I will tell you in this time as of now. The installation of RAM is VERY easy and any novice can install and see where the RAM goes just fine. There will be NO format needed it is just plug in and reboot. (Always touch your case before touching parts and always unplug the PC)

I also suggest getting a program called "CPU-Z" and running it, showing us the "Memory" tab with a screen shot and then we will know what kind of RAM is compatible. >.<

DDR... your good. You can get that. You shouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Maybe wait for another reply on that. But, I am around 80% sure since it is the same, the frequency doesn't matter. ;)

    Hope that helps.

dear dear, poor guy, a dell... i really know what it feels like :( :P

anyway, first you are going to want to look inside your case at your motherboard, see how many slots of ram it has. if you are running 2x128mb RAM right now, and you only have 2 slots, that would only bump you up to 384mb (never heard of a computer with 384 mb ram.) also, if your are running two channels of RAM, it would be smart to buy two of the same kind. i suggest just getting one stick of 512 mb IMO. also, i dunno if its right, but i believe if the mobo only allows DDR 333 and you use DDR 400, it will automaticly downgrade the RAM to DDR 400, in which case, get DDR 400! in fact, they are about the same price now... here is a link to some 512mb value RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820146846

dont take my word for it that DDR 400 works in a DDR 333 mobo, wait on somebody else to comment on that. but if you have a choice, definally get DDR 400 becuase if you have to use the ram again in the future, you might as well have the faster of the two.

Lol. It is quite alright. I wish I could answer your questions to the full extent but I messaged xMasterx, maybe he can finish this job if he ever comes back. Also, I got you through the most part of the stuff anyways. I am off to bed. Night!

That looks nice John. I am not too sure about the whole DDR 400 thing either. =\

    Nice find though John.

Okay I just had a look at my motherboard.

I have 1 stick of 256 and there is another slot beside it which is empty.

    **OOOOH PRETTY LIGHTS!!!**

I'll look into those suggested rams!

    Thanks!

256 is hard on an XP comp at times. Recommendation is find some cheap 512 or even multiple 256 sticks. Like AKW said, CPU-Z is a great prog and i've used it a few times. Hope you solve this problem alright.

    Sorry bro

    Does Newegg.com ship internationally?
Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico.
