well people(at the per person basis) when a sig could be bought with 50-100 posts worth of creds. inflation happened. It's inevitable, creds are naturally worthless they're not even paper money. part of the fun of being ona site like this is getting wealthy I guess. Once you have 100k creds ehh... it gets old. now imagine SITE INDUCED HYPERINFLATION... it'd be impossible to get rich... Posting would actually get you something... new people could compete... I've been saying this for years yet noone ever listens. this type of stuff has been happening on pretty much anything where an online currency exists. You can either attempt to fix prices(which IMO isn't THAT good of an idea) or make it so that it's easier for new people to get stuff. now eventually there will come a point where you get 100 creds per post or something like that... go into the database and drop off two zeros from everything... repeat ever few years and you're golden.
So you think that if I were to increase the creds per post to 2 or 3, that it would change everything? Wouldn't this still ne inflation and users would then raise their price on things even more? This would increase the number of credits twice as fast.
they would raise the price more. but the prices wouldn't double automatically(think sticky prices). most people with a lot of creds got those creds, not by posting, but by being active in the marketplace either buying creds with cash, or by selling a lot of stuff. and do I think it would immediately change everything? nope. do I think it would help? probably. people come and go. it's a natural fact. when you have people going for some reason or another and it's hard for new people to establish themselves you'll have a net population loss. IMO the economy here should be as beginner friendly as possible. THe old timers will stay because they like the community, but new people are still determining whether or not they like it here. also emulate success. If you see something that one site does which people like... RIP IT OFF. as it stands now you need hundreds of posts to get a new signature. for new people who aren't good at graphics that is overwhelming. When inflation gets bad again... 3-4 creds a post... then 5 then 6 then... also maybe change the amount of creds per forum. For posting in a forum where someone is likely to ask for help they can get more. in say off topic, less(say1) and gen discussion 2 in tech 2 in market 1, in ... I don't you you do the math there. and before you say creds mean nothing, back in the day people used to spam the intro section of this forum to get creds. It DID make new users feel more welcome IMO. then creds were removed from that area... suddenly it died.
lol just thought i should put it out there that i made 3k in like a month >.< so really if you want to get credits its not going to be from getting extra credits from posting... and PR has a shout box just pointing it out.. again
yes but if a new member makes 10 posts a day while new for a whole month he'll end up with 1k creds to spend, not too bad. also, remember prem renders used to require posting to get into, not sure if it still does, but that probably helped a bit.
Credit problem is one of the biggest things and the steal credit item. Then there is some staff who refuse to give you help when you really need it, the IRC, and last word forum. The spam forum is fine but the lastword just went way to far and same goes for the IRC all members do is flame, spam, talk ----, and so on when in the forum rules it frowns upon that, and the fact Dem is leading one who starts most of the flame and everything makes the staff look bad because someone who is amin is breaking the rules that he has helped put into place. In my opinion the things that should be gone in v4 is the irc, lastword, and no offense to you dem but I think you should be removed as admin you hardly help out. I for one know this as I have asked for your help before and you have replied with such remarks as its not my job to help you or you will come back with some snide comment and say screw off or ------ off that is not how someone in your status should act. And as I said Dem no offense but I have tried to get along with and even help you with certain things like trying to find a skin for your xp that looked like opera and when I found you the streams of house, and that one movie and none of those time I ever heard a thank you or I appreciate the help.
in v4 get rid of last word its there to flame people? wow thats really inviting for people who might wanna join the site and stay active get rid of irc and have a shoutbox on the main page for all members with 100+ posts that could help this site alot i believe
which is what we have now... and when it starts to rear it's head again, jack up the creds per post ad infinitum... it works this way in the real world too. When inflation occurs... wages go up.
You mean the credit steal item that hasn't been in effect for months? The only people effected on average were the people who used it, which was the purpose of the item entirely. Those people in the first few days who lost 80k credits all had their credits refunded. The IRC has been this way since it was made, get rid of the IRC and I 100% guarantee you will lose the core members of this site that have been here well before most of the current staff and actually know something about the site rather than just complain. Maybe if you didn't make yourself out to be handicapped half the time you were in there (alongside a good amount of members) you wouldn't target flames from the senior members of the site. I also rarely *start* the flame, and the only thing in my posts that wouldn't be stated elsewhere is cuss words because unlike other members, my posts don't get filtered, sorry my angry words hurt your delicate eyes (see that, thats sarcasm, its rampant in nearly every post you'll see in nearly any post on any website). I personally have done more work on v3 and v4 than most of the staff have done in their entire time here on site. I don't do petty things because they annoy me. When you are hounded by 10s of PMs daily, as well as MSN, as well as IRC for multiple years from random people complaining about how their name isn't how they liked it 6 months ago, and how a post needs deletion when there are 15 moderators on at the time, it gets quite annoying. Admins are *not* the only people who can do work on the site, and its even in our staff FAQ to pass it to the lower bracket if you feel overwhelmed. Again, maybe if you were an admin on a site the size of GR you would understand. Maybe. 90% of the time someone asks me to do something trivial, I state ask Draven if its an admin thing, which hardly anyone ever asks for because global mods can do nearly any trivial thing an admin could do, otherwise I say, 'om a global mod, because that is what they are there for'. There is validity in my statement. Logical does the same thing as well. When it comes to password resets? I'm there. When it comes to a moderator abusing the system and falsely banning individuals or abusing their power in general? I'm there. Oh, and don't even think about bringing up me abusing my power, if I was abusing my power I would have been removed ages ago, the thing is that everything I do here has reasoning behind it. When it comes to finding out which moderator deleted posts in a topic or something, I am there. When it comes to getting credits out to people for competitions? Just like Draven, PM Me as a reminder and I will get to it when I have time. When it comes down that you are the 20th member in a single day to ask for a new name, free credits, and a handy, yes, I am going to say no. If this were to be a real world scenario, I am having a party (the IRC or MSN usually) and then randomly, you are the buzz kill who comes in, pulls me aside, and tells me that my lawn needs mowing, while I am entertaining 50 guests. You would say screw off too, as would every members of this site. Most of the time if its something I can help with, even trivial things, I will say send me a PM on the site and I will take care of it when I am not busy, which is the reason my 15,000 PM inbox is nearly full. Members expect things to be done IMMEDIATELY, the VERY SECOND that they ask you for anything, and I am not going to drop everything I am doing at the moment so that I can log on here and generally IRC and have everyone ask me to do something which distracts me from my personal life generally for upwards of an hour. Not happening. Matter of fact, you gave me the skin and I said, 'thanks'. Sorry I didn't bless your first child, bring out the 1960s wine, give you a rubber and bend over and let you shove it up my poop pipe. I never asked for any help, you volunteered, and I had stumbled upon the skin you gave me before you gave it to me, but I didn't say that so I didn't just be like, 'omg you just spent 30 minutes looking for a skin for me that I already found, waste of your time lolz'. The thing with the members of this site is they think the staff, especially the admins, work for them. Newsflash, we all have lives, we all do our job here or we would be removed quickly. Notice how fast the members of our former staff were removed? Yeah, inactive or not doing their job correctly. Notice how long I have been here? Wanna know why? Myself and Logic were behind almost everything in v3, and myself, Logical and Remix are behind almost everything in v4, and in between all of that? Logical and I do a bulk of the non-trivial administrative work, such as fixing database errors. Why? Because that is the entire reason why I was brought onto the admin team in the first place. There is a reason why we redirect traffic to global mods / sectionals and draven, because that is the role they have fit into.
yea sure remove the last word, so people go flame in the forums again.. Shoutbox would only make the site slower which causes more cost for shaggy.
I think it's a hell of a lot easier to make your keep on PR than over so it's more fun. I mean, we have an "uptight" approach to credits over here and over at PR it's just a bit of a laugh, i mean, some people have a ----load and it's just quite fun altogether.
I doubt it would make a difference to be honest. Besides, it will cause inflation.. people already have a problem selling the credits at the forced 200:1 ratio. If you change the number of credits gained per post, you better adjust the credit selling rule to 400:1 - and I strongly believe that the people who have accumulated a large amount of credits in their accounts over the past years would be pretty upset about it...
