I use the pen tool. you just place your anchor points around the render and at the end you copy it on a transparant bg, I find it to be the best tool around for rendering.
I did a tut on too (it's in the Misc. section here if you're interested :))

I lasso a small corner I dont want, then take out the magic eraser and erase it, then this allows you to just lasso round areas you dont want and hit Delete to get a transparent b/g...then lasso round the image (use polygonal lasso ;)) Pen tool also works well, its how most prems are made...but, I dont know, for me my p/lasso looks way better then pen...its choice I think (or skill :P)

I use pen tool. For those people using lassoo tool, I assume you mean the polygonal lassoo, otherwise you must have incredibly steady hands :P

    PEN TOOL FTW!

I use the lassoo tool when quickly rendering something for a sig (And I only render the part I will use). It is efficient and it works. If I want to make a large render to share with people. I use the pen tool. Better results.
