Hi, I've been drumming for about 4-5 weeks, and so far I've taught myself to play "Back in Black" and "Highway to Hell" by ACDC. I decided to try a challenge, "American Idiot" by Green Day. The problem is, I can do the beat fine WITHOUT the hi-hats. I can play it almost perfect without them, but whenever I add in the hi-hats, my right hand automatically lifts off the hi-hats when I hit the snare. The beat goes: BBB S BB S BB SBB, with the hi-hats supposed to be on 8th note timings. Can anyone help me fix my problem, this really bugs the hell out of me when I get all messed up when I bring in the hi-hats.

Practice very slowly, and work your way up to speed. Then go past up to speed. When you return to the regular tempo, it will seem easier. :)
