Yes I reckon its definately worth the money. Its more future proof and the g0's overclock excellently. I have a Q6600 and I am happy as larry!

well, the best CPU IMO is the Core 2 Extreme QX6850. it also is the highest scoring on the 3Dmark06 CPU test.

one prob is it costs major $$$...u can research benchmarks for lower end models here : Tom's Computer Hardware Benchmarks

edit: the 6600 quad is still prty good tho, if u rlly want that quad (and its much cheaper :) )

I'm going to be blunt - it depends.

how long to you plan on using it? In the future quad will be a must. though by then you can probably pick up something faster for around $30...
what are you using it for? media apps and some games(namely supreme commander) greatly benefit.

conversely there are other things which do not. Most games show no benefit. For general use there is virtually no need. For me going quad would likely just burn power without any real performance improvements. For some though, it's a tremendous improvement.

right now there arent really any multi threaded programs, so right now a dual core is great. i wouldnt buy a quad core untill its a must.

I don't think crysis will be benefiting all too much. from what I've heard from those who broke their NDAs 3Ghz c2ds work fine.
far more video limited than CPu limited.
