I don't give a damn, I make no claims about my work, and I honestly don't give a damn.

And now I remember why I love you two

There's only one person you need to impress...yourself. If you're doing graphics/art to impress other people, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

    Well no.
Not always, when doing actual Proffesional work, like on Commission etc. then it is to impress others.

But with tags etc. it should be about what you want.

Totally agree. Who really cares what others think about your work, you are your own person, do things how you like and not how others want you to do it :)

I honestly beleive that half the people here who are chastising others of overrating their work do the same.

I swear, who gives a damn let people do w/e, it's just a hobby.

Even with that. I do commissions, and I know I've got 4-5 waiting for me this summer (I've already been contacted about them). If you're not impressed with it, the person you're doing it for is going to pick up on that, and if the artist doesn't have confidence in it, then who says the commissioner will? Yeah, you've got to do it to their specifications, but still make it so that you're happy with it. If you like it, have confidence that it's great, then the commissioner will pick up on that fact as well and it'll be FAR more likely that they're satisfied with it.

    Tell that to Pegasus :)

But ja, Tags aren't worth much. That's why prices like 100USD are amazingly ridiculous O_O

You can apply some things that you learn with them to other branches of graphics - like when I discovered gradient maps while doings sigs, which have in turn made coloring my photomanips (which do make me money) much easier and makes them look much more nicely done than before.

oh i agree you can learn much from doing sigs
but if people dont move on from sigs to large art or whatever then in all reality they arent really learning anything

    Yep, I agree with that.

I went the other way, in fact -- I've been doing large art much much longer than I've been doing sigs. I apply what I've learned from photomanipping to sigs and vice versa, and it helps a lot both ways.

I do a lot of sigs but simply because usually it's faster and easier than doing a full piece of art, which for me can take 12+ hours, when I get into painting in little details and such on photomanips....oi. That takes forever.

Everyone has there own style, I just do this for fun, I could care less if I ever become what people are saying "pro". I rate everybodys work according to what I like and my styles, so if see something I hate I'll say "hey yo its not my style and I really don't like it but good job anyways". This pro stuff is getting annoying.
