Post your bad virus experiences basically...

My worst happened when my family first got cable. We didnt invest in a firewall or any of that, everntually we got a virus. This is one of the worst ive ever seen though. heres a list of the things it did.
    - Opened a private irc channel to communicate with the host of the virus (hogged bandwith)
-Wouldnt let you open task manager AT ALL
-Refused the connection whenever you tried to access any virus prevention site.
    -popups
    - Would barely let you open opera/firefox/IE unless you clicked ita million times.
-Constantyl used about 30-50% of the processor power (ty sysmetrix)
-and one of the weirdest parts, when we tried to get mcaffee on a disc, we opened the installer, the virus shut it down, Then it disabled use of the drive which was used to hold the disc. Meaning the disc was stuck in there....

This led to a complete reformat and general unpleasanties all around...

    Mine is this:

I got the virus that ate up your hard drive. I had a 40gb drive at that time, I only used about 5 gigs, and I all the sudden have 100mb free on my computer.... reformatted, and it was fine...

Okay I had a REALLY bad one ages ago, here's what it damaged.

    1) None of my programs would work and when i tried to open them it would automatically uninstall them.

    2) All my pictures and files were moved to random locations and everytime i rebooted my pc, all my pictures were gone.

    3) When i went on MSN it would automaticly change my display picture to one of the default ones and change my font to the default one (microsoft sans serif) so basically it was starting my msn from the beginning.

    4) Even after i removed the virus, everything was still there..it destroyed my whole pc and i could go on for ages.

    5) I could not change my desktop background at ALL it deleted all the default backgrounds and i couldn't set a picture.

    Ooo unlucky! :(

My worst one wasn't as bad as all these, but it resulted in me having to pay £35.

For some reason, my Windows Media Player wasn't working, and so when I tried to uninstall it, I uninstalled every program EXCEPT Windows Media Player. And at the time, I didn't know about system restore, so I had to phone and get it fixed. Which cost £35.

It might not have been a virus, but I didn't do anything to the program to make it not work...

    it disabled task manager,
it sent you annoying popups on startup,
closed down IE when anything related to removing viruses came up,
    Removed all anti virus programs,
    disabled MSN
    inserted smaller viruses by itself.

i had to pay norton £25 to remove it because norton AV 2005 failed! what a jipp! but anyway, its gone now, and my days of recieving dodgy files over MSN are gone :)

I've really only gotten some trojans, But I did get this Virus/Malware thing that would Make popups come up even when I hasn't browsing, and Opened up new tabs/windows in all my browsers, like very 30 seconds, and brought me to random ad pages And damn that got REALLY ANNOYING!, I had to download the trial of Webroot Spysweeper to get rid of it, I had scanned with Adaware, spybot,ms antspyware, and alwil avast antivirus, which usually works great.

Never really had a virus that did anything cause I fixed it all up before it did.
The only thing that has really ever screwed up my computer was I accidently a whole folder of important registry files in the registry. The next time I rebooted everything was slow and nothing worked except for windows and the net.
