This is my first template, still working on it. Just wanted to get some feedback from the GR community first.

The Upper BG yes, but the menu bar was done completely in photoshop. I can post the .psd for it if you would like proof.

No need, im not trying to acuse you of anything, just pointing out that it looks like its just copied pasted. You should take the vista style as a concept then build up on it

I wanted to emulate it for the menu bar, and nothing really more, still unsure of how I would do the tables for the main content area though.

    Very bad move.

The menu bar completely says "I have no creativity, so I copied Microsoft" to me.
If you're going to take inspiration from someone, its better to do it discreetly than to copy them 100%.

If I gave you "a f*cking break" you wouldn't of got the proper criticism.

and if you don't care about creativity from the start, then what is the point in learning?

I apologize Acrima. I appreciate the critiscism immensely.

It is my first one. I'm trying to get a feel for the whole thing. I just over reacted.

Any suggestions on what I could do?

I suggest making your own background.
Looking at your sig, you obviously know how to use Photoshop, so why don't you apply some of those skills into a banner for your template?
If you think you can show us something with a well-known copied background and have people say nothing about it, you are mistaken.
    But over to the template.
I really like the buttons, but you should either make them wider, or move them to the left or right side.
I like how you used transparency, so try to use that in other places to go along with the theme.
Aesthetically pleasing too, it's not too hard on the eyes.
I'll be waiting for your finished project, and if you want, even though I'm not too great at it, i'll splice it up for you. :)
