If a program has more features and can achieve more, then it is a better program, regardless of what the beholders abilities are.

And things like brush settings, filters, modes etc. can be recreated on GIMP? That is nice, but if Photoshop does it in one quick single step then it already automatically proves to be a better program.

We're talking about a program here, not the individual who uses it. And there is no such thing as a "PS quality", as people can make horrible things with PS as well.

Achieving more does not exactly make it the better program. And it has everything to do with the beholder. Because it is the beholder who actually uses the program.

Just because Photoshop can do it faster still does not justify your opinion as to why it may be better. The time it takes to do something really does not matter. Hard work comes from dedication, and dedication comes from taking time your time.

You can't simply just look at the program alone. Because the program can not produce anything without the individual user. So the user has every right to be included into this as well. What may work for you, may not work for others. I've tried Photoshop, sure it has all these great features but that does not appeal to me. The quantity of features has no effect on the quality of the work the user can create. Keep that in mind.

You got a better chance of claiming the sky is green.

My previous post should have ended this discussion, that being said, you could be a Gimp God, you won't get the job if you don't know photoshop.

    (unless you're gifted or something.)

photoshop is better than gimp. its not a matter of opinion. it has more options and is much easier to use once you understand it. its a far superior program.

I picked up on Photoshop easy with some noobie tutorials at places like good-tutorials and pixel2life when I first used it.Then I lost Photoshop for a while so I decided to try GIMP, after I learned the basics like adding a stock I could then use my experience I had with Photoshop to kinda recreate things I could do in Photoshop with GIMP.I found the quality in GIMP only comes out half as good as Photoshop though. You can make nice stuff in GIMP but you have to work harder to do it then you would in Photoshop IMO(after you learn the tools there mind you), and GIMP did seem to limit creativity when I used it.

Like I said though you can achieve nice works in GIMP if you have the knowledge to do so.

Here some of my GIMP work:

And common sense does not come from your head apparently, hun. Efficiency is great. Don't be a nincompoop, lol XD. I think you're just getting defensive because you think we're attacking you. No. We're not attacking you. We're attacking GIMP, which you happen to use, haha. GIMP is not NEARLY as good as Photoshop. The amount of steps IS important, especially if you're talking careers and deadlines. You CAN achieve MORE stuff with PS, and GIMP is a huge hindrance when you're trying to make something amazing, because it doesn't have simple stuff like beveling, gradient maps, photo filters, etc. ^_^

    Think about it.

Look at Gimp work. Look at PS work. Which one looks better 95% of the time? :)

Eternal.. How can you even compare them if you never used Gimp? Gimp does offer gradient mapping and beveling.

Gimp is confusing to use, photoshop isn't. Which makes that the better program because it's more user friendly.
At the end of the day, you can't achieve photoshop features in gimp. Photoshop wasn't even made for making signatures, it ws made for people who are actually in the graphics business so just because you don't use the extra features doesn't mean anything. PHotoshop's extra features may not be of use to you, but they are to other people which is why it's constantly being brought up in these arguments.

I actually have used gimp. I just don't remember gradient maps. And I NEVER found out a good way to bevel. I had to work like twenty minutes to get a mediocre bevel.

He's right it is confusing. It takes way too many steps just to cut out a stock. The filters are mediocre. Photoshop is just more easier to use. It takes forever to make a tag on Gimp too. Theres a limit on Gimp
