Does it have like a letter and a number on the left side of the canvas?

what do you mean by that? when i open a new doc ... its white with a black border on it... and forwhatever reason it saves like that it bugs me

Also i unistalled it and reinstalled PS all over again and this error comes up the first time i start up the application and it says the something levels of PS are too close to the levels of window something or other.

I almost have a similar problem as you. When I open up a doc whether its a finish product or new, a outline around the canvas is there also on the left hand corner there is a letter and a number or something. Was searching on how to remove it cause it bugged me, I found out by pressing Ctrl+H and it goes away. But I always have to do that when i open up a doc in PS.

Edit: dunno if my problem is related to yours.
