Okay, I will definitely be able to shoot this one because I can simultaneously do this and my final! Yay!

Sad I missed the last one when I had an idea, but just had no time to shoot anything aside from school related stuff :(

You'd be surprised how being a photography major can hinder a photography competition. My idea was to piece together a flower from things I find around the house, then put it in whatever setting compliments the colors, mess with the lighting, and take the picture. Just never had time to actually make the flower <_<

Just got all my finals yesterday :). And I had a brilliant idea for the website I have to design, hooray! :D

no i was just wondering what the smallest size should be cause yeah the smaller they are generally the more HQ they seem.

There should be a minimum size, I agree. Otherwise you can't see if it's really a crappy photo or not. Longest side should probably be around 700-900px. Fits the monitor, but allows you see if there's noise and blur. It you're judging on technical skill, noise, blur, camera shake, and depth of field are important. Smaller images make it harder to see all that.

yup my phototags look --- but not so good when u make them bigger.
minimum size of longest side maybe 500 cause i think 700 px is quite large but we shall let admin either ignore this or decide on an acceptable size ;)

Well, whatever size, I think one should be set. Large enough that you can see if there's camera blur, but not obnoxiously large or anything.

I'd say 500px is a bit too small. 650px looks pretty nice, assuming your have a newer monitor that doesn't have a resolution of 768px for the height. I submit larger resolution images so judges can see technical skill as well as artistic skill, but I don't think people should have an advantage because they want a smaller image.

If we talk about it enough, maybe they'll listen, eh? Like the parable of the persistent widow, only different since we're not bothering anyone ^_^

^ Odd analogy. On my monitor 650 would look like a thumbnail, detail would be almost impossible to make out. You also have to consider the difference in cameras, some people in this contest use point-and-shoots and they should not be cast aside just because the cannot afford a better camera. Some of those cameras don't produce pictures ( on high res settings) of more than 2000x2000 pixels, and a 50-55% reduction won't change the quality that far. I can take a noisy picture at 4kx4k and reduce it to 650 and it will not look noisy anymore, easy noise reduction. I have yet to see anyone submit a tiny picture and for now it doesn't really seem like that big of a problem. Blur and noisiness are also used in artistic photography and distinguishing purpose from accident is an impossible job.

Pretty much what eccentric said. I haven't encountered an entry yet which was too small so I don't see a valid enough reason to add a rule for it just yet.

I don't think I am going to be able to get anything for this month's. I have had a few ideas but nothing that really interests me. It's all the WoW playing, I am losing too many brain cells.

so if someone was too enter something around the 300 x 550 pixel range what would the mods do if it seemed a very decent shot would it be in contention for 2nd or even first place or disregarded even though no rules say about a minimum size........

Personally I'd take it up then. Don't really know what I would do as of now.
Possibly I would allow it for that once, but contact the artist and then probably introduce some sort of rule about it.

But I think there are so many rules already, not only in this comp, but around the entire board. I think there should be some room for people to use their common sense when it comes to things like this. But indeed, if someone crosses that "line", some actions will be taken :)

(btw, tomorrow is the last day to submit entries ;))
