Umm, load up the P.C. - Make sure your Windows XP CD is in there.

Boot the CD from your computer. Jst by going to my computer then double clicking on it. Then keep on going through the installation, when it asks you if you wanna upgrade or new install, hit new install. Then it'll tell you to select a partition, delete the current partition, then it will ask you to re-format your computer. Say yeah, and thats you on your way!

Is your CD drive first in the boot process? Go into the BIOS and check. when your computer is booting it will tell you what key to hit to go into setup. Once in there go to boot sequence and make sure your CD drive is at the top of the list then reboot.

well i dont have any other ways of checking it, first make sure ur not making any mistake at the First boot part, then ill advise u to open up ur case , and see if ur HDD is using SATA or IDE, if SATA it should be a smll CAbel, if IDE it should be a wide cabel

    here are few pictures.

ur hDD should look like this ( i asum u have no knologe at all)

    IDE cabels are like this
