DDR2 isnt compatible with s939 and I would suggest staying away from the gx2 until better drivers come out.

Yeah, DDR and DDR2 and DDR3 are all different, and have to match the mobo. Everything else looks okay, although personally I'd go with a Thermaltake case if possible...

The 4600s+ has only 512kb cache, it doesn't really matters, but I'd say get a 4800, 4400, or even a 4000, they have 1mb per core. I know cache doesnt really matter for AMD's but more is always better.

About the motherboard, you shouldn't get a crossfire chipset, while you are using a nVidia card. If you want to use that board, get a ATi card, a 1900XTX, and if you have the money get 2 of them and set them up in CrossFire. If you want to get the GX2 card, get the DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR board.

If you can wait, then do it. All processor prices will drop massively when intel releases their new processor.

The ram could also be better, the ballastix you have has CL3 latencies. While most DDR400 has CL2, which is better.

The ram which furious selected is incompatible, however, when you get a socket AM2 processor and the mobo he selected, its good. However, there is NO huge difference bitween socket 939 and AM2, even the DDR2 ram isn't that much better as DDR.

here's a good ddr400 kit, if you still go for socket 939:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820134062
It performs it best at the DFI SLI-DR mobo...

About the cooling, use the stock heatsink and fan for your processor, if you are not going to overclock and a case with some fans. If you want to overclock, get a zalman CPU cooler, preferable the CNPS9500..

And maybe you also want to get an other HDD, for storage, because 74GB is not much... (well for me then ;P ) A 250+gig will be sufficient enough.

    WAIT FOR CONROE...

I sold my opteron system for that reason...

    I had over FX60 performance

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2
note how it says conroe is released on july 14th...

    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5692
    http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.asp...cleid=794&cid=1

    also, they overclock extremely well...
    EXTREMELY
    VERY WELL
    PHENOMINALLY WELL

on LN2 people have pushed them to 4-5GHz. On air I'd expect atleast 3-3.3...

also F the 7950GX2 overpriced... by the time you actually need that power, you could get better for cheaper. a 7900GT or a x1800XT suffice. Also 7950GX is only DX9 and doesn't use a unified shader architecture, so don't blow so damn much money on a single card...

Also, what is the logic behind the s939 Mobo/processor? They made a new socket, hello? fyi? The newer K8L's will be released late this year and if you ever want to upgrade to one of them, you need an AM2 socket type.

Just be ready for a completly different build when you finally relize that you should get the Conroe.

Good point phil, i overlooked that.

Along with the Raptor (for you OS, games, programs), you will want like a 250-300 GB HDD for music, files, etcetc.

err, and look at like a Western Digital Cavier. Or if cheaper, Seagate Barracuda.
