HI i have to share the PC with my family :| and i hate them using my things
etc: Photoshop, mIRC so on so forth..

anyways i was wondering if there was a program or a option in XP Home
to put passwords on these programs so they can only run if you give
    the password.

if so any help would be great.

cred maybe depends on how much i got!

Bad idea... the only thing I would think of is chmod-ing them so only you can use them BUT as far as I know chmod is only on *nix

Well i think when installing it it should of asked you if you want everyone or just you to have access to the program. I am not sure about XP home I only mess with the pro. May have been an option in the install process.

also, if your parents have admin rights it doesnt matter what you do they will be able to see it and use it, so your best bet is to get your own PC and password protect it, but then hey that isnt even really protecting it. I have a program that will change the password to whatever I want to anyway. If you are too young to get a job, then I would suggest saving the lunch money, or even talking to your parents about chores for cash to buy one.

I know what you can do. If you don't want them using photoshop, you can use a program called lock folder XP. Found here:

    Lock Folder XP

it is just a trial..If you want full..Pm me ;) Anyway, what you would do is install it, pass protect it so only you can use the program. There is a option in the program to do this with :). Thsen click protect in it, and navigate to the program files folder, usualy located in the C drive, find the folder and clik ok or portect or whatever. Now look in the options up top, there should be sum settings like "protect after exit" protect on restart" and sumthin else. Basicall the first, will hide the folder from windows when you close the program. The second hides it when you restart the pc. And the third is sumthin else, tis useful. Windows can't find it, no one can. So when u run photshop ot any of its features it will say it can;t locate the folder. Do this to all the programs you don't want your rents or fam to use, and well they cant lol. Even if they are admins.

I use it to hide all my valuable stuff. Just be careful not to hide things like your entire user profile..You cant get it back when its locked, my PC crashed once, when i accidently did this..Lost all my data lol. Also don't hide your main hd, that your OS is on...Comp wont work lol.

Any questions, pm me or add me to msn and ill help ya out :)

You could try universal shield..But i havnt used that one..So wichever you like, id recomend lock folder XP.

hehe i had this same problem a while ago before i got my own comp and this is what i did... make a folder and name it a letter (example: a) then make a folder inside of there then inside there etc (i made it spell someone's name) then like in each of those make a few folders, then in there make a few etc... then put all your files in the last one you made (for me it was the last letter of the person's name). it takes a while but it works :)

Why not just make a special drive for the Xp Lock thing, that way you can lock your C: drive ;)
