adding 64bit does nothing to change heat output.

I'm using x64 XP Pro, so it uses the other half that's untouched by x86/x32. Meaning more heat!

Sorry for the cloudiness of the statement earlier. I forgot to put a sentence :P

Well guys ... I decided not to overclock my CPU. After the little mess up with my windows (i finally fixed it) my dad yelled at me about if I screw up on it again ... that I'm not going to own the computer anymore ... :censored: .... so I'm just gonna let it be. :D

There is no other half or anything like that. Its instructions that tell it can be. You don't know what you are talking about.

dude, you F'ed up when building your computer or something, the only way for it to be hotter is for it to take in more watts. going to 64 bit doesn't up the performance requirements really so there should be no aditional heat.

why would you even risk overclocking a 3 gHz processor.

Its not possible to get an AMD Athlon up to 450 Degrees C because the chip hits critical at about 85 degrees C bad things start to happen at this point, I think the only way to get a chip that hot is to put it under a blowtorch. The reason AMD chips have a lower clock but almost the same processing power as there rivals are because of an efficient architechture inside the CPU.
And indeed intel chips run hotter than AMD Athlon 64s these day but that might change since Intel plans to make its due core solution based on the P3

AMD > Intel. Maximum PC did an article where they compared the best AMD and Intel processors, and AMD spanked Intel's ass everytime, plus they're usually cheaper.

Even if AMD chips that do fall behind in some tests but the difference isn't dramatic, so it's pretty much you paying a large premium for too small a speed boost. AMD still beats intel in the value for money stakes anyway so your better off getting AMD.
I read in PC Powerplay (Best Australia Gaming mag) that you should spend a max of $500AUS on your CPU and that should last you for several years and spend the rest of your budget on the best graphics card you can afford or any extras that you might need(soundcard, fans, PSU, soundcard ect...)

^in australia its hard to get a decent gaming cpu for under $450. over $450 you have your x2 3800+ and your 64bit 3800+'s and above.

Because some people with special Liquid Nitrogen Tubes have gotten up to 7.5ghz. Its basically increasing your e-penis.

    Well its:
    a) Expensive
    B) Stupid

Anywho when condensation starts to happen watre builds up inside the computer. The guys at Atomic (Australia Gaming PC mag) built a full system emersion case where they planed to emerse a PC into a tank of Fluorinert (non-conductive liquid) to cool it (along with mini-bar fridge, peltier, and pump), turned out they had to use mineral oil because Fluorinert would cost a heap of cash, in total they managed to get a 25% boost in speed with there CPU ^_^
