Overclocking Geforce 6800 Gt

I read on the net you can overclock your Geforce 6800GT to 6800Ultra speeds using the coolbits reg trick.

My question is : is it safe ? Do you need extra cooling ? Or will a case with a fan that sucks air in and one that blows it out of your case suffice ?

 

Well, No overclocking is really safe. It all depends on how much you want to overclock. The more you overclock the more cooling you will need. Or your computer will literally catch on fire.

 

im probably 100% sure u need more cooling ie heatsinks & fans but if ur PC cant handle then i advise not to - maybe its up to you try searching for it on google something bound to come up

 

I still have time , I don't have a Geforce 6800GT yet ,
in fact I don't have a PC that is fit for gaming yet :lol:

I'm going to buy a PIV 3.6Ghz with a Geforce 6800GT and 1GB RAM ^_^ so I will probably need very good cooling anyway to keep it cool

 

make sure to use Arctic Silver on your heat sinks. And I heard the one water cooling system is the best... The one with the tubes... Whats it called.. I forget

 

With that rig, there is no point is OC'ing your card. You will not get much of a performance jump to see a difference, and you take the risk of burning up you very nice card, and if you do, OC'ing it voids the warrenty, so you will have to PAY for another.

 

its a 6800 GT there is no need to over clcok it. and if you do, no one fan suckign and one blowing will help nothing. over clock would need more heat sinks, or a sh*t load of fans. Yep, I would suggest not overclocking. Me and mates have had bad luck with overclocking. My graphics card set on fire and burnt up my built in modem as well (luckily I use broadband, and don't need the modem). Also my friend overclocked his 6800GT, for some reason his fan stopped and the plastic on the card literally melted. My advice, don't try it, but if you are, look on google for people who have tried it with the same card and see what results they got
