lol, i just had to post this, its making me absolutley sick to my stomach, since no one seems to care about my graphic book AT ALL B)

A SIGNATURE, IS NOT ART, PERIOD.
honestly, if your new, or even intermediate, quite making ----ing signatures, NOW.
why are they a waste of time? to be quite honest 90% of signatures have a "Render" or a "Stock", the renders in siggies are most likley painted and airbrushed in Photoshop, yes photoshop using tablets and such, imagine if you actually made a render from scratch instead of cuting out the background? wouldnt that be a much better feeling? all signatures are basically made with other peeps renders, and other peeps cinema 4d renders, if you go to the trouble of making one for your own use in a sig great, but are you still going to to use a "Stock" to make it look good? to anyone who dosnt use other peoples images, i commend you, but you really dont need to read this :|. what im saying is that even taking the pen tool and ----ing aroudn with shapes on a large canvas is better then taking another persons image and then puting it together with adjustments and brushes and filters, and then getting credited ofr the final result is bullpoop, it may not be violating copyright laws, but if you think about ti hard, its just like ripping
you may be thinking omfg this guy did it himself its just like ripping.
#1, i never made many siggs, mostly bought and shared
#2, i was stupid and never realized how retarded signature making really is
    #3, forgive my spelling =)
if you bother reading my post, id suggest taking my advice
heres some links to decent graphic programs other then photoshop
A link to a very good fractal program
    link to a good 3d program[END]

i don't think that makin sigs is that bad. its more like practice for the real thing and its just a different type of art. yes it is kinda like cheating by using a stock and just maniping the ---- out of it but oh well its what some people are good at nomatter how much you complain

The term art covers such a broad spectrum of creative interpretation, I can't see how anybody can point at any creation and state, 'That's not art, but this over here is'.

So is it peoples interpretation of what you would not consider to be art that's the issue here, or is it the fact that "no one seems to care about my graphic book AT ALL " and you're angry about that.

Kinda like cheating, but I couldn't give a ----, lol. And in a lot of arts a lot of people use pictures to relate to when drawing and such. That's kinda cheating too, lol.

Some people work hard on sigs with a render more than others.

everybody starts somewhere, and it IS art. it is NOT gfx.
signatures are the starting point for most graphical carreer's
and hwy should they stop? its good training for when they DO learn to make theyre own renders.
    http://www.deviantart.com/view/35985243/ <your artwork, with hero's render.

and using your reasoining that means that your LP isnt artwork, so what is?

beauty and concept are in the eye of the beholder.

i do agree though, signatures arent worth jack later, but are good training for peopel like me who plan to get a job in the buisness in like 10 years (when i go to college..)

I kinda agree. Though I did and sometimes still do make sigs with other people's renders and whatnot, I get much more satisfaction when I make something completely from scratch, usually in c4d.

    define art for me.

music can be called art, and paintings are art. and pretty much everything you want to, art isnt just that. art covers more then just your definition of it. is a stone art to you? probably not, aint to me, nor is it a pile of brown dirt, or some cans glued together, but it could be to someone else, and if a person thinks, its art, you cant say its not

noone gets to be a designer so quick.why not do sigs if we like doing them?people learn,if there's no wish and trying people will never be able to do a sig.
it's not necessary to do art,we can all just try, maybe later become real ps artists.

yea, id have to agree with you, so i used hero render, but i did with permission and stuff, and he asked me, but ya your right :P but the problem is that signatures would work as a good way to start up a graphic career, but some people just never stray away from siggies, and then call themselves pro, if you think of what really makes you go "WOW" its usually not a signature, its usually large art, but tank you all for the intelligent responses ^_^

I like to make sigs for the fun of it, anything bad with that? I dont want a career in graphics, and i dont call myself an artist for such. But i like making sigs and getting better at it, its just like that. Your probably just writing this to tell people what you do (LP's and such) are alot more work and alot better, its probably true, but that doesnt give you the rightto say what ART is. If thats your perception of art, its fine, but i hope its not contagious :P

(btw im just giving my opinion,ok? dont be offended , because thats not what im trying to do)

It doesn't really matter what we do, forum signatures exist because they look cool. Also, like the person above me said, its fun :D

    The closet...I think I'm stuck...
yah, exactly sigs are fun...although I do prefer to create them myself (even if it means using 'stock' that I've made with my own camera...) but at the same time....there are hundreds of people in advertising, billboards etc. Now, I'm not saying thats art, but it IS a practical use of rendering (magazine covers another one, espeical hobby/game mags) for a living, and one which 'sig' making can aid intf.
