When you have a .psd file for PSCS2. What do you have to do to open it? I can bring up a sig .psd that I've made in the past, but what do I have to do to expand all the layers to make changes?

They should be there if you saved the psd with the layers.

If you saved the file as an image file (jpg, png, etc.), opened the image again, and then saved as psd, then you won't be able to edit the layers.

So from now on, should I not merge all the layers, and save as .jpeg or whatever? Just leave all layers open, and save the sig as .psd?

yes, always leave all the layers alone, just go file save as, then save as .jpg

Just leave all the layers seperate and either go to File >Save As or go to File > Save for Web and make it a PNG :)
