I'll keep it simple.. Let's talk about Microsoft's new Windows Vista. Tell us if you have one, if you want one, what you like/don't like about it, any features, any secrets in it, any leaks, etcetc... Because I would personally like to hear it, to know if I want one or not.
It's a great improvement from XP but the main thing that I don't like and probably many other people is the DRM.
i want to buy it but not sure its worth the money tho, im pretty good with my xp home. I know i dont need to buy it lol but i want to have the real version. Ill probably get it from newegg
I would like to use vista, but I don't know if it is good enough to warrant the price. I have used RC1 before and aero was pretty nice but I don't think enough is changes IMO to upgrade from XP at the moment, maybe I will upgrade after the first service pack comes out or when I can get a "special discount"
Did Vista copy OSX? Yes. Is that a problem? I don't think so. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Mac got it right, and I think that Windows even sorta is a weird kinda way did a good thing by using mac's programs as a base for thiers (im not gonna say they ripped it because they still had to rewrite to programs to work on windows.) Most of mac's programs are useful, pretty, customizable, and fun to use. Why not try to go for something like that? Because it been done? Not on a windows it hasn't. Oh and I think It's so awsome that windows copied spotlight because I hate (that dark kind of hate) the windows search thing with that goddam dog. If this kind of thinking went public I'd probably get flamed big time by people to are super duper mac ownerz, and I'd have to tell them to stop being greedy, mac is awsome, and so is my scarface game...and I want to be able to have both. And just to stay on topic, It's gonna be pretty had for Vista chat to get popular because MSN messange, AIM, and Xfire got it pretty much covered.
That video made me giggle. However, it's not a total rip off, since it implements it's own idea's. And just a little heads up to people, the first Windows version was just about as similar of a rip-off to Apple's GI, as Windows Vista is to Mac's OSX.
...yah, looking at that video, vista does take some of its features from mac, which as remix said, is not necessarily a bad thing. Vista still retains some of its windowness, such as the start bar, traditionally on the bottom of the screen, the start button that acceses programs, and yah. The mac has not been completely ripped off. THe mac still has the finder (is it still there?), the bar with the apple on the top, and all that shizz. And, the vista still has its own new innovations, such as the ------ transparent windows! Thats cool...I'm sure mac will come up with something to combat vista in time =D
I'll probably get it when the graphics card drivers improve and when the game compatability improves.
to be fair, all of the ideas mentioned in that video wqere either used in OS/2 in 1993, in whistler beta, and win server 2003. in short M$/IBM implemented them first.. they just never launched them because their implementation sucked. the fact remains though, vista isn't really all that inovative in terms of features. In terms of performance, it is a huge leap forward... If you have 3-4GB RAM. I don't and probably won't until I can get a 4GB kit for $150USD or so.
4gb for 150$ you must be out your mind lol that will take a long time... i mean its hard to find decent 2gb kits for under 200$ (note you can find them but only when they are on sale or with rebates, i have not seen a 2gb kit of ram under 200$ without a rebate or "instant savings")
well, 10 months ago high performance 2GB kits were going for around $130USd what's so crazy about 4GB kits? Micron just launched ICs at 2GB per double sided module so 4GB kits are definitely soon to come. As soon as all this crazy vista Crap is over this will all end. AMD updated to DDR2 causing higher demand on the platform. Intel got decent chips, causing higher demand for DDR2, and then there is M$ and vista which is causing huge demands for RAM. in short, PRICE FIXING is occouring... 6 months-1 year from now, 4GB kits with decent performance will go for 150$ even if they're DDR3... hopefully some manufacturer goes away from JEDEC standards and launches DDR3 on a DDR2 interface, it's technically doable. Either that, or I'm going with a large SSD for pagefiling.
"quote xelink here" but in 6-12 months from now there will be new CPU's and new OS' that will require more/ better ram, so wouldnt prices just go up? and yea i remember when DDR first came out i was getting 512 sticks for like 40$ and then 2GB was like for extreme systems lol
in 6-12 months everyone will have finished their upgrades and vista stuff... also, look at past memory trends, typically the cost of memory drops by half every year. This year has been a bit of an exception, it's gone up 30-60% in the last 6 months... 1 year ago, a decent 2GB kit of DDR1(UTTC) went for 145$ I believe, that kit is now $220
