As much as I do not care for Obama even I can agree that this is probably an attempt to cause a stir. I think polititans learned from the network nuetrality debackle that they have no place on or lording over the interwebs.

Its not an attempt at shutting down the internet, but it will give government control over the internet, and with that, they will have the option of shutting it down, should security issues heat up.

Of the many things that have needed regulating in our time like the housing market and lending industries the government want to put their hand in the internet? This does not rate on my list of things the president should be worried about. First of all if the network were to become unstable how would they know which servers to shut off and where? Secondly, if there were an "attack" via the internet I am sure somenene would be enterprising enough to do it remotely. Controlling Americas net means nothing.

This is probably blown way out of proportion. The government would be stupid to put their hands in the internet. Especially when it's the least of their worries.

Things like this get proposed yearly and nothing ever happens.

He's a Rockefeller. Unconditional control is what they do best. They already own the United States, the North American Union and most the western economies. The funded the Vietnamese with money and weapons, via manufacturing plants in Soviet Russia, they supplied the Nazis with petrol and technology for their airforce to bomb London during World War 1, and they're the driving force behind most of the wars of the last 100 years, and legislation aimed at removing Civil Liberties, such as the Patriot Act.

They ALREADY OWN YOU, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW IT.

It's easy to identify profiteering. Just wait for the accusal of Socialism, and follow the smell.

Honestly I'm not worried too much. But if I was I'd just start using the Onion Router more often and actually do something to help with the production of ParanoidLinux. The government can't control the internet no matter what they do. Technology changes daily. It's a hard job to keep something like the internet regulated especially when you have billions of people with access to it.

That'd be like trying to have control on Illegal Downloading. You definitely won't be able to completely control that. They barely do, it seems.

Well, it's essentially just a political control measure. They can shut down blogs that promote opposing political views, close down online media organizations that oppose their views, and generally just prevent as much anti-democratic party media as possible. It has nothing to do with piracy, hackers, or cyber-security. That is just one of the many covers that the government and investment class use to justify ridiculous legislation and political moves.

I think EFF just exaggerating this matter, but yeah a political regime do wants to control information traffic, what's in and out... still shutting down internet won't change people opinion about obama's programs so I think it's futile and therefore just a bluff...
