not for me i already have an nVidia 8800 gtx 320mb just making a poll cuz i got in an argument about this lol
ATi for me...thats all I ever use...I have only touched the nVidia once...was not all that impressed.
I go with whoever has the best product at the best price point. consumer loyalty my ass. last few generations it's been a toss up and up until lately I basically just went with whatever there was a good sale on. GeForce FX< Radeon 9000 GeForce 6< Radeon x series (only barely) GeForce 7< Radeon x1k series (only barely) GeForce 8>Radeon HD2k series consoles GeForce 3(PS2)>radeon w/e used in the gamecube Xenos(xbox360)>RSX(PS3) Cards I've had Radeon 9250 GeForce 7800GT GeForce 6100(int GFX) GeForce 6200PCI GeForce 7600GT(almost got an x1900GT insteed, I literally flipped a coin) GeForce 8800GTS 640MB noticed that the radeon 9250 despite it's crappiness had slightly better handling on image quality than the GeForces(the 6 and 7 series) but the 8 series a huge improvement for nVidia eclipsing that of the radeons IQ. Merged Post: GTS, not GTX the GTX only comes in 768mb varieties and has higher binned memory and 25% more functional units. also a forum run amok with a lot of "computer newbs" who think their $500 system is teh 1337 is usually not the place to ask
Both have pros and cons there's isn't one that's just totally better better to compare cards like 7900gt vs x1900xt where x1900xt wins and i think also over a stock 7900gtx like xelink said x19xx>79xx series i almost got an x1950pro instead of 7900gs but i generally think 79xx series are better oc'ers so i just oc'd the 7900gs a lot and it had a voltage increase which helped anyway almost got an x1950xt but then decided to get a corsair hx520 so i'd be ready for a better card when time but right now 8800 series seem to be better than 2900 series in dx9 but we don't know about dx10 yet i think that ati 2900 might beat the 8800 series in dx10\ who knows
I think that by the time we get decent DX10 games it won't matter and both companies will have better cards out. I foresee a revised R600 killing a revised G80, but coming out a while after... who knows though?
My personal preference is nvidia. I believe Radeon is a lot more expensive than nvidia. I have a 7600 GT 256mb cost me $100. If im incorrect Xelink can correct me...
I've generally found that ATi offered the better bang/$ on their products most but nto all of the time. I got my 7600GT for $70 though(6 months ago) I'm a cheap SOB and again I go with the best deal I can find.
It all depends on the person. For me, I'm like Xelink. I go with the best deals and it doesn't matter what brand/company it is regarding this matter. I've owned both cards; nVidia and ATi.
Just thought Id mention that nVidia has much better driver support. Especially in Linux Merged Post: Just thought Id mention that nVidia has much better driver support. Especially in Linux
