ok..i have a 95 from about '99, '00 that era, and when i try to start it says "Non-System disk or disk error Replace and press any key when ready" there's no cd rom in there, nor is there a floppy....wtf is wrong..it won't boot all the way, and it's been this way for a while, i'm about to break down and buy a new hard drive
I personally say just upgrade to XP...but not sure what to do for your system...not familiar with it much..
You don't have a flash drive or jump drive in by any chance? That may cause it just like a floppy would. If that isn't the case, could be a damaged or corrupted boot sector. Possibly caused by a virus or incorrect installation of a program.
well it booted enough (ms dos i geuss) to run a virus check from a mcafee emergency disk, nothing, and no, only drives is 1 cd rom drive and a floppy
Grab sum cookies, munch em, take a few prozack, then slowly kick ur computer lovingly till it responds Jesse

3 Possibilties 1.) You put a diskette into the computer which is not bootable, and did not take it out, and the system tried to boot from it. 2.) Same as above, accept this only applies to usb thumbdrives, usb harddisk, etc. but if and only if you configured your computer to boot from them 3.) You somehow deleted your boot files such as command.com, autoexec.bat, etc. Try reinstalling windows if this is the case. Note : Buying a new harddrive WON'T help.
there's no disks in it, i tried putting hard drive as first option for boot, no luck edit: i made a boot disk for it, and it brings me to a command prompt (a://) what should i run??
bumpeh, i'm getting pissed about this thing...the computer gurus at another board i go to live in f'n australia so they're time's screwed :censored:
microsoft.com...whodathinkit...thanks man, not been gettin much sleep, i'da never thought of that -.- edit: they don't even have a section on windows 95...DAMN YOU MICROSOFT edit edit:...i'm an idiot...found the section
Once at the A:\> type, sys c: <press enter> (only do this command if you are using the same operating system that this diskette was created on). This should return a message 'System Transferred', if you receive bad command or file name and have verified you have typed the command properly, you will need to obtain a bootable diskette with the file sys.com on it. If system was transferred successfully, reboot the computer and issue should be resolved.
