Nintendo's been tight-lipped about how much we can expect to pay for its forthcoming Wii so far, merely stating it'll hit shelves at a price significantly lower than the competition. Now though, it seems the company's revealed that we should be forking out a maximum of around 120 GBP come launch, according to translated reports from Famitsu.com. Speaking at the company's latest press conference unveiling its financial results, Nintendo revealed that Wii would arrive in Japanese stores with a maximum price tag of 25,000 yen. Whipping out our calculators and doing some quick sums, that roughly translates as 222 USD or 174 euros. By way of comparison, the PS3 will retail for 62,790 yen (558 USD/437 euro) at launch, while the Xbox 360 currently sells at 39,795 yen (277 USD/353 euro). Obviously that 120 GBP is a direct conversion, but even so, it's looking like Wii's going to be an affordable little console indeed when it launches later this year. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=140530
i'm an all around kind of guy i love the xbox, dreamcast and n64....... ps2 is kind of "meh" (execpt for a few unique titles such as guitar hero, shinobi, and a few more)... out of all the next gen consoles (360 includded) the only one i'll buy is the Wii and that's because both the price (300$ and below is fine for me) and the unique gameplay..... all ps3 and 360 offer is polygons and bitmapping..... and i can get that off my pc.... i actually just bought a 360 controller and downloaded the drivers for it a few hours ago.. now i'm playing driver 2 with a xbox 360 controller.... but yeah..... i'ma get the Wii, thanks for the price info Nick
Keep in mind $250 is the MAXIMUM price. It will probably be $199, just like the rest of Nintendo's consoles.
Sweet! I can definetly get this, SSB and Zelda too! OHH RAH BITCHES!! OHH ----IN RAH! Thanks nick p.s. thats a lotta yen
If therre are enough games I would enjoy playing, like Ubisoft's Red Steel, I may consider buying that for the low price while still having a 60GB PS3
It would be perfect for the whole family on Christmas! There's a chance that the non-gamer side of the family might try the Wii.
I want it just as much for the classics as I do for the new games. *points to secret of mana and punch-out!!* definite buy for me.
Please remember that Nintendo said it would be UNDER $250. They haven't actually made a final price yet.
