I'm new to this graphic hobby, and i really need help.. i took a graphic ed class, but they didnt show teach us how to back backrounds, I want to make sigs.. but i cant really do so, because i dont know how to make the backrounds. I can render, i can blend in.. and all that good stuff.. but like i said, backrounds are really complicated for me, and i also have a hard time smudging. Most of the tutorials i see, dont teach how to make back rounds, they should a picture with a little gradient work done with it, then it goes right to the render, and by the time they put the render and the backround together, it looks like the backround is already hooked up.. I'm wondering, do you guys just get the backrounds of sites? or do you create them?
About half of mine are stock photographs, and half are terragens I made myself using a program with the same name (Terragen, that is). Rarely do I make the background completely in Photoshop. Then can be made by duplicating the render and smudging or blurring it; use of the pen tool; brushing; filters; and probably many other ways, and, of course, they are edited to the sig maker's approval with various color changes and filters. Since this obviously isn't my field of expertise; someone else will have to go into the details for you. Good luck as a sig maker.

i usually make my backgrounds from smugging and stuff. But lately ive been just using basic stuff like just a white and added some colors like my second sig that i have right now
You can use smudging as a way to blend things in. If you look around the forums just look at topics this site will help you a lot, its helped me a bunch. I was actually recemended to go here from a friend.
I make my background myself. Some tuts are good at explaining that - just brief through the tut and prem tut section and I'm sure you'll find one. You can also try download some of the psd files in the resources section - that way you can see for yourself how the asrtist built up the background. I wrote this a couple of months ago for some newbie friends... I feel it's too basic to post in the tut section, but perhaps you'll find it useful <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE("Eilorendil")</div>
