I need some on getting a new processor on my PC, range would $180 or lower, my motherboard is compatible with 939 pin so I'm guessing it's only compatible with AMD ones

    spec: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1008842/1008842sp3.shtml

and I got one more question, if I did replace my processor, do I need to install all drivers again as if I would change the motherboard?

You should not have to re-install drivers either.

Yes, the Opteron 165 would be a good choice.

either an opteron 165 or an athlon x2 3800+ woudl eb my suggestions.
can your board be overclocked? If so my first and foremost suggestion is to go for the opteron 165 if you're willing to invest a little bit of time. If you want an easier OC and dont' mind sacrificing a little performance, go for the x2 3800+, it has a higher multiplier but only half the l2 cache. Current steppings of both the opteron 165 and the X2 3800+ overclock very well.

if your motherboard is incapable of overclocking,

    opteron was allready linked to...
x2 3800+ is hard to find on socket 939... which is weird... used to be plentiful...

also, it might sound crazy, but sometimes fry's electronics has CPU/motherboard combos. I've seen c2d e6300s plus a cheap via motherboard go for like 180ish... it's comparable to an x2 4000+
but you'de need one with support for DDR1 RAM.

also, unless you're spending big $$$$ single threaded performance WILL GO DOWN. AMD's Dual Core CPUs in your price range are lower clocked.

lol, I almost ordered the opteron 165  , trying to look for better ones other than 3800+ but I can't find some good ones in newegg, the one you suggested is kinda high for me now but might consider it... anyway do you know any good sites other than newegg for good deals

x2 3800+, 4200+ etc. are no longer made for the 939 socket, so that would be why.

I couldn't find one at a reasonable price either, only place I could think of would be ebay.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Athlon-64-X2-4200-...1QQcmdZViewItem

    x2 4200+ for 155.

FYI half the CPUs on ebay overclock like ----... good news though is that you can't overclock it anyway so it doesn't matter.
