I spoke to acouple of banned members and wanted to see what sort of features they have. They cannot see any sections but the donate. I'm assuming that if the donate feature is available, GameRenders staff is looking at this as a point of revenue.

Here are some abilities a new paid membership group for banned members could have:
    • access to arcade
    • depending on what former paid membership group they had before ban, they see that section
    • ability to see profile and edit it

    But still be banned?

I like the idea, but I'm not sure how many people who are banned would stick around for more than a month (and that's being reasonable).

I know if I were banned, I wouldn't pay anything to only have the option to view forums. Now if there was an unbanned price, I could see that... only if they were extremely loyal to GR but screwed up enough to be banned. Even so they would still be underprivalage, such as X amount post limits per day, non access to certain forums (mostly auction and such), and 1 mistake and your out rule. (Only be bought once). Now even so, I wouldn't think to many people would pay for that and even the few who do, wouldn't go past like $5...

If you really want to know my full opinion, they messed up... whether they like it or not, there asses should stay banned and should not be allowed to even view the forum. You mess up in the world you cant buy your way out of trouble (atleast you shouldn't be able to). When they come to the page they should have to visit Leetsausage's house for GR-Camp (bootcamp) haha. j/k bout the last part.

Some good ideas there trav. I agree about people who get banned should stay banned. Everyone should be given a second chance though: which is what GR does. After 3 months, you can create a single account to contact a global moderator. They will then vote amongst each other and decide if you should be welcomed back or kept out. Sometimes ban reasons can be outrageous though, which I always preferred using suspensions for upwards of 7 days over a lifetime ban. Warning level should count for something, ya know? If it's 0% and you've donated, should be given a couple of chances: everyone has them.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Ummm no...spending money shouldn't mean that you deserve more chances than anyone else...

Notice, there were two aspects of that post. 0% warning and donating. I never said they should be immuned, just merely warned. Warning levels should count for something.

Thanks for your input on this enlightened topic though. Also, sounds like you agree with me. "spending money should mean that you deserve more chances than anyone else." - I agree, somewhat.

I think the more you donate the more % in warnings...

    Regular members - 3 warns = 100% (33.33% increase)
    Ruby Members - 5 warns = 100% (20% increase) $5
    Diamond Members - 10 warns = 100% (10% increase) $20
    Plat Members - 20 warns = 100% (5% increase) $20

Basically figured the amount more each usergroup pays for...paying $5 ruby should be lower amount rather than upgrading $25 for diamond and $45 is alot of money so should be almost indestrcutable lol

Viewing the sections of GR while being banned is kinda useless. You cannot post nor communicate with the members in anyway so might as well not read the sections.
It also increases the chance they see someone saying something bad about them and trying to either get a friend to reply on his behalf or ban evade.

I agree that banned people should be able to edit their profile, in case they have e.g. their MSN posted and want to remove it.
But the thing is that others will probably edit their sig space with some ridiculous message, like "GOT BANNED FOR NO REASON OMG GR IS CORRUPT" or images and whatever. As far as I know if you have permission to edit your profile, you automatically have permission to edit your sig space/avatar/personal photo etc.

The idea is nice though don't get me wrong, if I were banned I would like the ability to update my profile as well.

Don't really think that is possible, again, as far as I know it isn't an IPB feature. All you have in the ACP is a screen where you can adjust the settings of the warning system, but cannot be set per usergroup.

You guys are missing the whole point. You shouldn't have to pay to keep away from being banned. Thats utter and complete bull.
