Well, only Windows Programs work in windows unless you emulate it, you know.

I would not suggest going back to an older Windows OS, because then you would have to update a he|| of alot...

The next safer thing to go to is Linux there are hundreds if not thousands of different distros out there, Fedora, Ubuntu, RedHat, Knoppix, Mandrake, SUSe, to name a very few.

If you are new to Linux, I would suggest getting Fedora, Mandrake, or Ubuntu. They are starter Linux distros that include everything you could ever need. Yes, they come with 3 or more CD's for all the programs that it loads in.

OpenOffice is much like MS Office, and can read .xl, .doc, etc. files
Gimp, along with GimpShop, looks and works alot like PS..

The games will not work on there unless you can find a linux version of it, but you can dual boot Linux with windows, so you have both operating systems at your hand.

[edit] Yeah, Linux (except for Lindows) is free to download. You can also buy the CD's if you have a slow connection, or don't want to download 3 cd's 700mb each... You can also download them on BitTorrent, which may be slightly faster..

its gone a long way from start to present... I have seen little problems here and there, but not too bad, they always update their stuff and fix the bugs.

I havent seen any hardware issues, but if you have the latest stuff, linux will have a driver fior it. If its over 5 years old, I doubt linux would have anything for it.

well, you'd need a brand new computer if you move to MACs, but linux is a good alternative for PCs if you hate Windows so much...
