Can you get the left over change of the difference, or is he just going pay for it all. Either way, I will make you a build with a 7900GS from eVGA. Within 3 months, you can send you 7900GS to eVGA, pay the difference of the 8600GTX ( $8600GTX - 7900GS ) and you will be sent a brand new graphics card. The 8600GTX is DX-10 compliant, and you will be very happy. My build probably will not envolve using all of the money. $312.99 -- Core 2 Duo E'6600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819115003 $244.99 -- Asus P5B Deluxe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131028 $275.00 -- Team 2x 1GB DDR2-667 (!VERY OVERCLOCKABLE!) http://www.tankguys.biz/ddr2-3338-p-1676.h...9cea33dd062848c $185.99 -- eVGA 7900GS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130056 $189.98 -- 2x Seagate Barracuda 320GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148140 $30.99 -- NEC CD/DVD R+RW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152076 $289.99 -- Samsung 20" 6MS Monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16824001081 $67.00 -- Enhance 500W http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PS-E5150GH&c=fr&show=r $149.99 -- Thermaltake Amour Series Full Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811133154 Or if you're too lazy to install liquid cooling: $429.99 -- Thermaltake Tai-Chi http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811133171 If you don't want liquid cooling, get his heatsink: $49.99 -- Scythe Infinity Heatsink + Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835185027 Total: $1,826.30 (Total includes the price of the Armour Series case, heatsink, and does not include the price of the Tai-Chi case and the shipping on the Memory and the shipping on the Power Supply.) yes, but just because few of a certain chip were maid, doesn't mean you shoudl get it. 2.0Ghz out of it with 1mb l2 cache per core, performance is compareable to a 1.86Ghz Core2 Duo, the athlon x2 might overclock to around 2.8GHz on air, newer c2ds get a fair amount above that at about 20% more performance/clock. At 3.0GHz a c2d is compareable to a 3.6GHz opteron. FYI i had an opteron 165 which is effectively the same thing and I clocked it usually at 2.6-2.8GHz depending. my c2d is faster at 3.1GHz athlons run cooler though, if you want a quieter fan and aren't temperature obsessed(but c2ds are mroe thermal resistant so you really don't need to give a damn)

athlons are no longer top of the tier and CNPS9700 is overrated especially for the cost. if you were going to drop big dollars ona CPU(which is stupid since they are all obsoleted rather quickly) get a qx6700, otherwise I advise getting a e6600 and just ratchetting the FSB to 333 and leaving it there. again wait 1 week, geforce 8800 and kentsfield come otu so price cuts...
i know C2D are top line but the AM2 socket is going to be AMD socket for its K8L 4 quad cpus, where as intel Socket 775 will be replaced with a new one anytime now
there will always be something new you realizek8L isn't nearly as large an improvement over conroe as conroe is over k8 and if it is, then I'll be damned. IF you look on both companies roadmaps though they all have arbage planed which woudl amke you want to get a enw motherbaord anyway so it's not like you'de be ahead. c2d e6600 + board costs less thana single fx62 and offers mroe ro less comapreable performance --- overclocking, post... well, rape comes to mind.
I thought Kentsfield release wasn't until early next year, they're shipping to retailers at christmas apparently :S
