well xlink knows that my system is crappy since we discussed it in irc

    specs im on now ..

    AMD64 3500 SKT939
    ASUS A8N-SLI
    1GB DDR400 RAM
    6600GT PCI-e
    800GB HDD

well planning to get opteron 170 ? cant remember which one xlink recommended , 2GB Kit & a Graphics card that is performace worthy for the price - OC the opteron to a stable clock

Dont say get a 8800.. thats no help at all lol - Either ATi or Nvidia dont mind - havent used ATi before so doesnt matter as long as it performs good ... look at these babies http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist....6&subid=416

Max budget i would say around £300 - I dont want to spend £1000 on a new system due to other plans like buying ...

    - 22" HDTV/Monitor - £220
    - PS3 - £300

probably buy them 2 XMAS/early 2008 time and i am a bit low on money so need a comparison on the prices & which one to get :) My system even though its like 2 years old runs all games put onto it but lags a bit on new games so need to upgrade :)

MAKE SURE ITS SOCKET939 , PCI-e & DDR400 (I aint got a AM2 motherboard) - Dont want to buy another motherboard/CPU since i need to sell many setups i got at home lol

I live in UK so UK links would be advisable

    use
    www.microdirect.co.uk
    www.ebuyer.com
    www.overclockers.co.uk
    www.scan.co.uk

    thanks ladies

    HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT 512MB GDDR4 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=416
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=567
    Crucial Ballistix 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 CL3 2.1 V unbuffered non-ECC
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119278

Don't see anything better at ocuk, quite weird tho. havent looked at any other sites.

    Total
    £46.99 + £158.61 + £64.61 = 270 incl vat.

EDIT: Try get a AMD Opteron 165+ on ebay or something, make sure your motherboard will support.

he athlon c2s, atleast the older revisions overclock about as well as the otperons., this is moreso true with the newer AM2 Ax2s than the opterons. basically onyl btoehr with the opterons if they're toughly the same price as the athlons. As it is the only real difference is that the otperons all have 2*1mb l2 cache vs. the standard 2*512kb l2 cache of most AX2s, As such they perform roughly 1-7% faster per clock.

since I'm lazy, go with what dev said, he's fairly knowledgeable and probably a lot more familiar with EU pricing than I am since he lives over there and I don't.

As said above, I would reccomend more RAM. Worked for my noob computer, turned it into a moderately fast one. Getting a new laptop for Christmas, however.

Hmm, I just edited my post above. Try to get the cheapest HD 3870, as I havent checked prices. Ram as Crucial Ballistix and a Opteron CPU.
