Ok So you all remember my new laptop right? well it aint working well i mean it is working but the dvd drive aint it wont open up any cd that I put into it I put in my installation cd for the Brother Printer that we have which is usually autoplay and my new Vaio wont play or show that the cd is actually in or wont even auto play it what is wrong with it? i mean i have some old trail cd's for demo's of games and they work fine and i have some cdr's which have some of my old work and they work why wont this work Zain
Hmm, some CD's don't have AutoPlays maybe? Did you try going into My Computer and right-clicking it and then clicking AutoPlay? So when you put the CD in, nothing happens is what you're saying and even when you try to access it through My Computer?
So programmes dont work or just random cds? If only music and programmes load and not drivers then thats a different matter. Let me know
If the computer isn't reading CD's or even identifying that a CD is in the drive, then your CD drive is more than likely dead. Try searching on google or another search engine to see if any other people with the same laptop as you have had the same problem. Since you say your laptop is new, you should have either a manufacturer's warranty (Usually they last 1 year), or a warranty depeding on where you bought it and you can easily get a new dvd drive for that laptop. If that's a no-go, another option you can try is getting lens cleaner, I know that you can buy product and you can buy a CD that will clean the lens for you. Hope this helped.
Are you sure your putting in the right CD? I made the mistake of putting in the Mac Install CD for a scanner once and it drove me crazy trying ot figure out why it wasn't working. Windows can't read Mac discs. If anything try that CD in another computer. Maybe it got scrached or something. If other CDs are working then I doubt its your drive but then again its a computer so it could be.
pc can read mac cd's... its made the exact same way, its just that windows won't know what to do with those files..
I think that Master helpped me solve the problem my pc is 200gb at 4200rpm so that way some cd's are burnt a different speed and some computers are not capable of reading high speeded discs or something anywyas i figured that most of my game discs or any other program discs wont really work on my computer Zain ;(
yes plus i still have 10days left for fry's money back warentee so i can still return it in ten days and get a new one with a faster speed Zain
that's your harddrive... has nothing to do with ti and the speed at which is a disc was written or is to be read doesn't matter. few things to note- -f*ck auto start i never do that shid, i just open the disc and run the .exe myself if I have to -mac discs don't work in PCs, why i have no real idea, can't apple ever use a standard filesystem? -check to see fi the drive is detected in BIOS -use and abuse every warranty you have.

Ok So here is the update on this ----! I called sony last night and we talked for around 2hours and 47minutes. He still couldnt figure out what was wrong at the end he said that just reformat your computer back to the factory settings but still once i wasted around 1hour reformating it to factory settings it still didnt work so i called sony again and they said that if the pproblem is still accuring then just give us a call tomorrwo morning to the hardware department. Why? because it is your optical drive that has the problem. So i said ok Plus I told him that FRy's has given me 15days money backguarentee if i dont like the item or if it is defective (in this case it is diffective) so today i am going to go to fry's and if this computer is down a bit on the price i am going to return this and get a toshiba 2.4ghz intelcore2duo with 2gb ram for around 1900 this one was around 1700 so yeah i will be doing that plus if you guyus have any other good ideas please post Zain
thats good, Zain. nearly nowhere has that good of customer service these days... they cant just say, "oh, I'll contact the refurb section, and have him send you a form for rma" ... seems right now that Frys is better than Sony in service..
Yes it is btw I went to fry's last night and got my money back now I looked at another computer for just 200bucks more it is a Toshiba Satelite and it kicks ass Intel Core 2 duo 2.0ghz 2gb ddr3 or so memory RAM 200GB at 5400RPM hD NVidia Geforce 7950 GTX 17' and much more plus this time when i buy my lappy i am going to get a case with it a Razor Diamond back mouse (--- gaming mouse ) and a nice and slim external hd with around 10,000RPM for around 100bucks so yeah that is my budget so far which comes to around 2500 USD I have around 2k atm just got to get the rest 500 by next two weeks which I pretty much can if my boss gives me 8hrs a day on this friday (tomorrwo) saturday and sunday that way in two weeks i can get around 400bucks Thanks guys for the help btw if you guys have another laptop in mind which is good in brand and other things like that toshiba one then do get back to me Zain
