Hey asshole ... I'm trying to cool the whole case in general so lay off. And when I was talking about the CPU ... I was saying I was thinking of buying a new CASE fan (NOT PCI FAN) because that is what cools my CPU Heatsink. AND HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD U GUYS!!! I'm PRETTY SURE THAT NO HEATSINKS WILL FIT DELLS!!!
1. Do not call me an asshole, I can kick your butt out of here. 2. I know that you were talking about a case fan. the last link you posted was for a slot fan... 3. a case fan is different from a cpu fan, did you realize that?
you're using a case fan to cool your CPU? WTF are you crazy? CPU fans are supposed to be a lot mroe poweful than standard case fans.
have you guys ever seen the inside of dell? just asking.. if not, ill post the inside of one. mounted on the back of the case is a beastly 120mm fan that has a vent (you might be able to see what im talking about here http://john.is-a-geek.org/gfx/images/computer , not sure if those images show it though.) I dont know if the fan is as powerful as like the big typhon ones are, but its big, so therefor it doesnt have to spin as much, making it relitivly quieter. only problem is, NOTHING else has ventalation.
im sure most of us have seent he insides fo a computer... a dell might be a bit diferent though typically they have cords going the hell everywhere if i am not mistaken. fundamentally all computers are constructed in a similar manner though.
Thats what I've been trying to tell you guys. My Dell has a 92mm fan at the back of the case with a big plastic pipe that connects to the CPU's heatsink. This is so that fan at the back can draw the heat from the CPU ... but it really doesn't do much for the rest of the case. The heatsink it self has no fan directly on it ... that is why they set it up this way (I don't really like it). See pictures below so that you finally know what I'm talking about.
If another swear word is posted, suspensions will follow.WFCxT-time this is directed at you. They are trying to offer their help, XMasterX and xelink, are some of the best PC guys here, listen and take what they say to heart, or dont no skin off their backs, if this sort of back and fourth continues, this will be closed.
Sorry bout that ... I was just kinda tired and wasn't thinking when I posted. I pm'd him and told him I was sorry a little while back.
I hope you don't mean me, because I never recieved that PM... anyway, there are several dell models, some that have that tube, or an actual heatsink, some that don't. So it is true that the PCI fan would not have helped your CPU. Are you sure that it is 92mm? a 128mm will help cool it better, though...
err, thats of the other computer that i use... the other computer you might see on the sides of the pics is the dell. well anyway, i just wanted you guys to see the vent and what i was talking about. WFCxT-time already took the time to post a pic. But actually, whether you like is or not, that type of setup for your computer is better, maybe not for your cpu though. Most of the heat in a computer comes from, nonetheless, the heatsink. So in essence, that helps the computer a lot (temp wise) by isolating the heat the heatsink gives off an immediatly funneling it out of the case. Hard drive tempuratues dont even compare to that of Pentium 4's, and normally won't make a case too hot. I wouldn't worry about your system's overall tempurature anymore, as a new case with top (or front side) fans & backside fans will help that. I dunno if you really got what I said, i tried explaining it the best I can. But please remember this, Dell's are probably the worst for upgrading. If you end up getting a new case and/or motherboard, check the LED cords from the Dell. They will probably be in a different array then that of a standard case (standard case LED cords have 2 rows or 5 pins, one row missing a pin on the 4th slot. Some Dell's, mine included, has the LED cord array as 1 row of 10 pins, the 8th or so slot missing a pin. Just something to watch out for.) If you end up having a retarded LED array setup, you will have to buy a motherboard and a case at the same time.
ok now that this is somewhat settled(and for the rtecord I didn't receive a PM either) we can link you to a few good CPU cooling solutions. as for case fans, almost anything works, check how many decibels it is though if you wish for silence. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....rice=&maxPrice= newegg by rating... their ratings aren't 100% but it gives you an idea. take a look at the cubic feet per minute for a general idea of how much it cools(though it's not the single best determining factor as heatsink construction matters a bit) and the decibel rating is hwo quiet it is the lower the better. also on anothernote, john... you should take yuour avatar off for another 3-5 months, currently intel is lagging big, just wait until the core duos are out which are really good in price/performance from what I've heard. if you have the cash and enough space in your case, I've heard good things about this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16835154001
remove that plastic piece of junk thing its useless. Just for the record a cpu fan pulls air into the heatsink to push cool air over it to lower temperatures. Generally case fans at the back push air out of the case as its dusty behind the pc. So whats happening is the case fan at the back is pulling in hot air (initially air that exited the psu) and dust into the case, then into the vent onto the cpu meaning hot air is pushed onto the already hot cpu. Thus clogging the heatsink with dust so air cannot penetrate all areas of the heatsink. SO pull the vent out. make the case fan at the back push air out. and get a new hs/f for your cpu.
Is it possible to just ditch the whole Dell case? I mean it looks like garbage, it has bad ventilation, why not just toss it for a new case. Kill two birds with one stone. Looks and air flow. Don't you mean for your CPU? I don't think they make a HSF for PSU's.
