Ok, so my computer gets pretty hot while playing games. I have bought a new heatsink for my CPU ... but it didn't fit because i have a Dell (****ing Dell). So anyways, I was thinking of buying a PCI Slot fan that will move a good amount of air out of the computer to help cool things down. Here is the link to the ones on Newegg ... I would like to keep it to just newegg please. Oh ... I almost forgot ... it can only take up 1 PCI slot too. I don't have very much money ... so I'm looking for a cheap one that will perform alright and wont be extremely loud (but if its kinda loud ... thats alright)

All the slot fans on newegg:

Was thinking about this one (your thoughts?)

    Thanks :)

sounds like you need more ventalation, not fans...

Dell is not the best at ventalation... try taking one of the sides off wile running it, or something.

well from the bad reviews, it breaks and gets louder in a few months..

what you'll need is a fan on the back of your computer to air it out.

what type of case do ya have, anyway?

Well ... my parents wont let me take the sides off of it ... its just an ATX sized case. This fan should help ventilate though?

oh, tell them to go have sex in the other room, geez... it wont explode...

it might, id rather get a case fan rather than a pci fan, though. case fans are more powerful, and are closer to the cpu than the pci ones are...

Actually ... funny story ... my case fan cools my CPU because it has a big green tube that attaches it to the CPU.

thats an air vent... that just keeps your cpu cool, not your system. I had to take mine off for my new cpu fan, was too big..

we're talking about a dell here, btw...

dont bash the parents, they are old give them a break.

Dell's are bad for a good air flow. a moderate case with good air flow needs to have a fan on the back panel with many little holes for constand airflow in, then needs a fan on the top of the case blowing the hot air out. hence, hot air rises, so it makes sense that the 'out' fan is on top. Dell's however... at least mine... have only one fan, and that is for the cpu (with an air vent also, leaving the rest of the system hot.) When you get the money, the best idea is to get a new case.

yes, John, they also say to have your intake in the front bottom, and go out the top back.

either way works, just what your case has...

A good way to help is have your fans in the front suck in cool outside air while the fans in the rear blow out the hot inside air. You could always just get your dremel or a drill and put lots of little holes on the top and put wire mesh on the insde of the case so it looks decent.

Edit: Oh and err slot fans dont help too much, as they go on the bottom where the hot air isnt. I have one only because it helps with the ambient temps around my video card.

you need a new case if you want good cooling.
just for the record pci fans do not do a thing other than disturb air flow.

Or he could drill holes into his case for better airflow. Slot fans are only good if you have a hot spot near the bottom of your case. Other then that they are a facade.

So true, if i'm going to buy something like a fan or accesory, I either head down to Frys, or order from www.svc.com. Thier warehouse is like half an hour or less away from my house.

I do the same. Fry's typically assrapes you on prices(well sometimes they have decent sales but even half of their advertised stuff is overpriced) but when you count in the fact that you don't pay shipping at Fry's its a lot cheaper for small things.
