I need a program that lower the CPU. I got like 100% when i play cs and can play like 1h and then it crashes and the computer restarts. But the crazy thing is that when i play half life 2 ore world of warcraft it never crashes. I don't know what the problem is but i really need to make this to stop it only happens when i play cs 1.6.

    System:

    Windows XP Professional
    Service Pack 2

    AMD Athlon XP 2000+

    1.67 GHz, 512 MB RAM

    Videocard:

    Nvidia GeForce FX 5500

30 credits for the best help!

would help us a whole lot if you let us know what processor you have...

if you have an Athlon XP, don't expect much from it, the same thing happens to me in games...

check drivers first... i doubt it's an overheating propblem otherwise it would be showing itself in a lot more places than that.

FYI 256mb of vRam doesn't matter on that card, it would perform more or less identically to the same card with 128 megs of vram. wha vram does is store textures for fast retrieval and similar things. that card isn't powerfull enough to play at levels where that much vram is required.

again check drivers, update them all etc.

and yes diablo a 5500 should be compatable.

another question, at one point were you able to play 1.6 without crashing?

    =============
have you tried anythign else which pushes the CPU up to 100% like superpi or prime95, if those don't crash your computer I can almost guarantee you it's not CPU related.

Could be the fact you are running too many background programs while playing CS the same happens to me. I have to Close out of alot of stuff that consumes background space while I'm playing to avoid problems like crashes and etc.

get SpeedFan and monitor your processor's tempurature after some time on CS. just interested on what its temp is.

what fps (and settings) are you getting on HL: 2 with that?

a lil more ram would help...

    i need more info though...

go to start> run> type in dxdiag
let that finish up and hit "save all info"
open up the saved file and post the first block for that

    should look sumthin like this:
    Code:

he has enough ram(for 1.6 atleast a half gig couldn't hurt, only 30 bucks)... he has 256mb of video memroy not system memory. there's a chance it's PSU related but that's still somewhat unlikely. the easiest thing to fix though would be the drivers, update them all.

and yes, try speed fan or a similar program to check system temps if needed.
