First of all before you say anything: ITS FOR BEGINNERS ONLY!
I KNOW THE OUTCOME ISNT TOO NICE!!! Its my first & probably untill next summer my last tutorial! :P

To the person who rendered the pic: I cant remember if I credited you, i think I did... if not please tell me :) it was one of the first renders i got from here...

i just thougt i could share it, maybe some people can learn from it :)

    --------------------------------------------------------
PSD File available, please PM me for info :)

Oh well, here it goes... I thought it was time to make a tutorial :)

    Step 1:
    Make a new document. I used 450x125

    Step 2:
Press D to reset your colours. Now press G to use your gradient tool.

    Step 3:
    Use these settings
    [IMG]
and go crazy with the gradient tool untill you get something like this:

    Step 4:
Duplicate your layer. Now hit CTRL + U to bring up the "Hue/Saturation" menu. Use these settings:

    Step 5:

Go to Filter->Artistic->Plastic Wrap and use these settings:

    Step 6:
Duplicate your layer with the plastic wrap 3 to 5 times.
Set each duplicated layer to blend mode "Lighten". Now, go to
Filter->Distort->Wave and hit "Randomize" a few times, do the Wave thing with the customize on EACH of the 5 duplicated renders. You should now have something like this:

    Step 7:

Now duplicate your original layer (the one without colours). Move the layer to the top so its above all other layers.
Put blending mode to "Color Burn". Now go to Filter->Distort->Polar Coordinates and select "Polar to Rectangular".
This is how mine looks so far:
**The border shouldnt be there, i was just too lazy to cut it out of the screenshot :)**

    Step 8:
Duplicate the layer thats now on the top, the one with blending mode "Color Burn". Go to Edit->Transform->Flip Vertically.

    Step 9:
Depending on how your first layer came out with the Gradient tool, you can do this step or not. If you like the effect after step 7 just skip this.
Else, duplicate the layer from last step AGAIN and go to Filter->Distor->Wave and hit randomize a few times.
This is how mine looks now:

Well, that could be a background for a tech / abstract sig!
Now all you need to do is get a good render (enough around hree) and make it blend in good with the background. After that, add a border & you are done!

This is another background i got doing the same steps:

    My result:

As you can see, the result after step 6 is also quite ok, just have a look and add your own stuff!

Sorry about the slow image host :) its a spanish one :P

PS: I didnt read all tutorials here, if there is a similar one, sorry :P
