Well my parents don't have enough cash to afford a new PC for me so I was wondering what sort of upgrades I could get to my current Dell Dimension 3000. Here's a screenshot of cpu-z:

    My budget is probably £150.
I know my motherboard can only fit DDR memory, and I have 3 PCI slots. It's socket 478.
I was wondering what upgrades the dell could handle.
Also, does dell lock the BIOS?

He probably has no video card (only PCI slots.)

I would suggest only upgrading to around a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 and possibly DDR-400 2x 512MB RAM. You probably wouldn't find that much preformance boost from a PCI card, but if you want one, you could get that.

What do you try to do with your current computer?

I currently have a nVidia FX 5200 which I installed earlier this year.
I do a lot of Photoshop, CS:S, BF2142, BF2 and I'm moving on to flight simulation now.
I was looking at a Crucial 2x512mb which was around £70.
    Also a 3.0 ghz P4 was around £60.
I don't know whether I should just wait and save the money I have atm, or upgrade this computer so I don't feel so desperate on getting a new one (so I can wait longer).

slowest part in that system would be the craptastic graphics card(FX series was a joke and the 5200 isn't much better, if it is a PCI card though there isn't much i can do for you in term of recomendations- though i did manage to get a GeForce 6200 for 27$[20<s>L</s>] so try for that if possible) if you have an AGP port, x1600 --- might be a decent buy

next thing I'd advise you to check would be your RAM, 512-1GB would be prefered in your situation.

CPU, Celers are a joke humm, probably would advise you just to stick tight with it, CSS isn't that CPU intensive

Apparently FX 5200 is the most powerful PCI card money can buy, so I guess I'm stuck with it.
No AGP port either, even though I bought this PC middle of last year.
I'm not running that many graphic intensive games either, 2142 would be the most system-draining game I own, but I have no problems with it.
So should I not bother getting any upgrades and just wait until I get my new build with DX10 and the likes?

ive seen people get decently performance with a FX 5200 with the settings somewhat low.

RAM would be a better position for u now

actually x1300 is, it's jsut a rip off

the second most powerful is the GeForce 6200 amd tied for 3rd are the radeon 9250 and the Fx5500

just toss in some RAM so you have 1GB+ and you're set.
