My 2nd Website Temp (wip)

Well here it is. C&C plz, this is my second attempt, (this isnt full size either so things may look blurry)

 

It's plain, not bad for your second

 

Pretty good for your second. Try belending the text on the banner a little more though.

I don't know what it is, something is making me not like it that much, maybe it's the rounded boxes.

Colors are kinda dull for me. but nice try

 

the colors do seem rather dull and things just seem.....outta place. Not bad for a second though. Look at some other templates to get ideas and see where the pro's place their stuff. Get some ideas. keep up the hard work

Really nice. Especially as it's only you're second template.

There are a few things you can do that will make people like it more:

1) The header is the best bit of you site, but I think it's spoiled slightly by the border which doesn't really go with it. I think it could do with being set apart from the border with an inline shadow or something.

2) Those content boxes all need to align properly otherwise the whole thing looks rushed. Obvoiusly you won't be able to how much content you want to put in the middle boxes so I'd suggest only having two - one for the main content that is flexible and one as a footer.

3) One thing that might make the template look better as a whole is if you put some content in there to fill up all the gaps! People say it's 'missing' something and it will never look complete if you don't have content. Seriously, you will notice a difference. If you don't have any content then head over to http://www.lipsum.com/ to generate a dummy text.

4) Your login button is far too pale and contrasting with the green box and a little too big. In fact the whole bar looks a bit cramped. Perhaps take the font size down a couple of pts. Have you tried any other fonts as well? That one looks a bit out of place for the sort of site you're trying to make. For the content I'd suggest tahoma, but I'm not sure about the links etc. Just experiment until you're happy.

5) Try a few different colours for the background. Black really isn't working and all the colours seem to clash. Again, I can't really tell you what colour to have. Experiment and you'll get it right. Maybe try a subtle pattern on the border as well.

6) The link dividers need a bit more effort. Scrap them and do some new ones, or even take them out altogether. Can't really say, because it depends on whether you change the font.
