Motm - An Old Tradition

Most of the old staff would know what this is - MotM - Moderator of the Month. Basically, each month, there is a thread made (by a moderator / admin) that has a poll of every single admin / global mod. The users vote for who should be that months MotM.. aka, who they think deserves it, and WHY. Do they help alot? are they very active? friendly? etcetc..

The winner of the MotM gets no prize, but gets interviewed by another admin / mod.

So, basically, it raises self esteem of current mods, and gives the new mods a chance to express themselves, so that members know who they are. Like, for example, Marforce is the new Mod, but I know nothing about him - if he won MotM, members can learn alot about him. So, in essence, it lets members know more about the staff, and lets the staff get a chance to shine during that month.


.. That's what it was before, so lets keep it the same and bring it back! It takes no work.. Just a "yes" from the admins, and a thread from a staff member.

 

I Think thatis a cool idea. It might also make unactive mods (If there is any) becomce more active so they get Motm, also is makes them want to STAY active.

 

Oh, right, yeah. It'll have a lot of unkown mini effects on the community, that being one of them.

I think member of the month is better otherwise you will almost every monthe have the same mod ..

It isn't a NEW idea....... It's been done before and lasted like a year. There's enough mods/admins to last. Right now, it can last over 16 months.. With all the mods / admins.. That's over a year.

 

Good idea but

There's inactive staff (SwaT as example)
There's too less staff.

 

It didn't last a year, it lasted all of 4 months - two of those months being late.

There is a reason is was removed, it created issues with some of the global moderators who were active, but did not get respect/or credit for being so. Not to mention the fact that BiG Dave paid over 20,000 credits to win the second month from sensi..

I don't see how it would increase the self-esteem of any staff member on the site - it's not a popularity contest. Besides, there are 7 moderators, most likely the "MOTM" would be the same moderator. Not to mention that a majority of the moderators do work on the site outside of what is seen, you can't make conclusions on how active they are based on what the members know. However, I see why you mentioned it, I'll check back for more replies.

I think a member of the month would cause friction between memebers, especially since most people are under kirbir's "spell".
