Just giving the guy options, IMO the ultra-d is more than enough (I own one myself) but if i had the money id go bigger. And for the record, i already stated that the modded full 16x makes little to no difference.
why don't you drop your price on the motherboard to about 120$ and spend a little less on your proc? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103588 opteron 165, performs more or less at the same level as the x2 3800 at stock clock speeds... but why settle for stock when you could go to 2.6ghz, which is faster than the FX60 after considering core-architecture advantages? if you want a higher multiplier, then go http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103584 both go into S939, and are discontinued because they are stealing too much from from the normal athlon X2s. if you don't want to OC though then go with the normal X2s.
why would you go bigger? The board is already the top of line as far as specs go. I dont know why anyone except pro overclockers would need better I mean. Its got 4 or was it 6 SATAII ports, SLI, 4 dimms, extensive overclocking features. Its got nothing that a more expensive board doesnt have that is required.
Very good point, but with high quality DFI boards you are able to get those extra FSB you need to get a higher overclock.
unless he's rich his ram and cooling would be the limiting factor limiting an FSB/HTT increase, not the motherboard though.
He doesnt need a pc that can have an fsb past the 300 barrier. 1 you need damn good ram, 2 you need to be very lucky to get such a good cpu, 3 you would need liquid or nitrogen cooling.
