I got my video card today (8800GTS) and turns out it doesn't fit my board and case. The heatsink blocks it and my PCI-E slot is positioned at the first slot of my current case so no way I can fit my new card in. So now, I need to upgrade both my case and motherboard. The thing that's keeping me back though is the memory slots. My current RAM is only DDR and most of the mobos I see in newegg all have DDR2 slots. Is DDR backwards compatible to DDR2? I'd really want to keep what i can from my current PC.

I just need selecting mobos and a case that can fit to it. Here's all the stuff that I'd really like to keep (actually, I'd really like to keep all of them)

    CPU: AMD athlon x64 4400+ Socket 939
    PSU: Enhance PS-E51560 GH 500w
    RAM: 2gb DDR
    Video card: 8800gts 320mb PCI-e x16

and the rest are not really important.

    My remaining budget is $120

I was planning to return it and get a card that will fit but seeing how huge these new cards are, I don't that's an option and I really like to keep this card.

A 2gb DDR2 RAM is $24 on newegg, and thats the cheap kind. There is a game performance RAM there for $24 aswell, but that is after the Mail-in rebate.

unfortunately socket 939 motherboards are now very hard to get and you're system's memory controller is on it's CPU.

    you'de need
new CPU, new motherboard, new memory... etc.

also could you draw a picture(or take a picture) of what your situation is?

    also, return your old g80 revision 8800gts from 2006(yes it's a card from 06)

    get one of the following:
    9600GT
    9600GSO
    HD 4830
    8800GT 512mb

they're all single slot cards, they all are about as fast or a bit faster, and they might fit. Single slot cards.

Xlink pretty much said something very logical and now you've got just one choice, or why don't you just upgrade your whole PC?

Everything Xlink says is logical... I'd say just build a new PC if you can afford it...

he might just be able to get by with a small card...

but as said, swapping the board would basically mean swapping everything else.
