Ok, I'm in the market to buy a new 19" as a secondary monitor (i'm using a 15" from 1994 at the moment, and as you may guess, thats ----ty).

I'd like to get an LCD becuase space on my desk is limited, and I wont be playing games on it.

So, what are the most important things when choosing a new monitor, and what are the best brands.

Or if you just want to point me to some good ones, that works too *waves credits around*

These are the ones I've been looking at

brands: hyvision, Samsung, Viewsonic are all awesome brands..

I basically look for the lowest ms setting, the highest color ratio, and connection, rather DVI, or VGA.

Also, no speakers, and cords that are detatchable from the monitor are signs of a good models.

DVI with optional VGA adapters, which I'm using now.

And the one furious posted, since the response time is 2ms, would that bring it to the same or around the same leval as my CRT for gaming? Becuase Its tempting and I'll be getting payed for my commision job soon and that will bring it into the affordable range, especially since my dad wants to help me ditch my CRT becuase it puts out too much heat (lol)

It would be much easier to point you in the right direction with a firm price range.

Wide screen 19in 8ms response time

20in HDTV ready (Same one I have for my media center pc )

20.1 widescreen 8ms (Great picture I have one for my sons games)

So yeah aside from being able to tell I like widescreens a solid price ragne would help alot. Also jump ship with just looking at newegg. Have a look at Pricewatch to catch your self a better deal maybe. Also contrary to what some might think I wouldn't be afraid of factory refurbs. After working for hp for over 3 years a factory refurb can consist of just changing a chunck of surrounding plastic from a scratch. As long as it's still genuine factory I have bought quite a few with no problems. Hope that helps somewhat.

My price range is really anywhere below 250. I could go maybe a little beyond there, but it'd need to be worth it, since i dont really want to go any higher than that.
