I have some Burzum on my iPod^^

War was one of the first actual songs I learned to playon guitar, very easy.

The aren't my favorite BM band, though...And I've also head of 1349.

I think they're decent.. Bu again, not my favorite BM band.

Latey, I've listened lots of All Shall Perish, Dragonlord, Dark tranquility, DEATH, and some Dark Funeral...

Personally i have to favourite Korn and Disturbed.

Although i listen to a range of bands, i find these two just blow my mind. I can relate and enjoy the lyrics (as well as hear what they are saying) And the music itself is genius!

Wolves in the Throne Room = AMAZING US Black Metal. Incredible - check them out if you're a fan of BM.

    Agreed.

I still strongly prefer Norwegan BM..By far.

    Any fans of Gorgoroth?

    Change of Genre:

Anyone listen to Moonspell? I have "Memorial (Special Edition)"....I love it.

USBM is generally not good to begin with, which is why the rise in popularity is weird, considering there's like 2 or 3 really good USBM bands out there (WITTR included).

I think its mostly because people don't associate the United States with (good) black metal.

But, we do have bands like Xasthur, Leviathan, Wolves in the Throne Room, Grand Belial's Keys, etc... Also I think that since I am living in the U.S. I am more inclined to like a band that comes from my country, rather than a foreign country. Also, its mainly USBM supporting other USBM bands, so its not like a band from here is doing a split with someone of high status in another country... I mean I couldn't see someone like Burzum doing a split with Xasthur, even though they are bother one man bands and Xasthur pretty much uses Burzum's formula for making music; its just something I couldn't see happening.

I've gotten tired of Slayer. :(

I overplayed them when I was first getting into metal, and now I find myself skipping them every time they pop up on my playlist.

    Agreed^^

I started with random Thrash bands a few years back (Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, etc.)

    Then I branched out...

And as for the USBM thing... I'm currently living in the U.S. but I tend to listen to more Norwegan BM instead.... I feel a little ignorant to the music though because I do not speak Norwegan.. But I am strongly looking into it.

Lucky for us, most of the bands sing in English; or at least are kind enough to offer English translations.

There is also the vast cultural difference; Norwegians have the whole Christianity taking over their pagan beliefs to sing about.
