. Identify the base, exponent and power of the following: ( 2 each)

    (a) (-5)3
    (B) 2 -3

    2. Simplify to a single power ( 2 each)

    (a) 23 X 25
    (B) (9 3 ) 4
    © 4 -1 X 4 5
    (d) [(-2) 2 ] 2

    (e) (-6) 5
    (-6) 2

    (f) 43 X 49
    46

    (g) 8 4 divided by 8 -2

    (h) (-3) 3 X (-3)5
    (-3) 8 X (-3) 2

    3. Use the product and quotient laws to simplify. Rewrite to the smallest base possible first .
    ( 3 marks each)
    (a) (63 X 23) 2
    (B) (-82 / 43 ) -1

    4. Express as a power with positive exponents

    (a) 9 -5 ( 1 mark)
    (B) 42 ( 2 marks)
    46

    5. Simplify each of the following: ( 2 each)

    (a)
    (B)
    ©

    6. True or false (1 each)

    (a) is a rational number (Q)
    (B)

    7. Solve for c ( 2 marks)
    c 3 * c 2 = 3125

    8. A number cubed is then squared. The result is 4096. What is the number? Can you find two possible answers? ( make up an equation and then solve it) ( 3 marks)

Ignore 5 and 6...Grade 9 homework, 50 credits for whoever helps. Before 4:00PM Mountain Time would be great...

If you just do a questions you'll still get some credits. Thanks to anyone who helps, even one question is great...

In the event oneof the Mods close this...cough*BFTP Hydro and Rena*cough feel free to PM 'em to me :).

Now looking over it, I don't get wtf ur going on about lol, writing it up like thats confusing

    7) C = 5 (5x5x5 * 5x5) = 3125
    8) 4 (4x4x4 = 64) 64x64 = 4096 (who says u need a forumla) and the other one is the conjugate which is -4

true its cheating, but as long as its not coursework its legal.

by the way can u express something to the power such as x to the power of n as x^n, (if n=2) x^2 = x*x make it easier to understand.

I would post my maths coursework up, but don't think anyone would reply

First, edit your post and click on "disable smilies" or whatever the button is called. Then, like the person above me said, rewrite your post with carets. If you have, for example, 8 raised to the power of 2, write it as 8^2.

Assuming this is written correctly, your base is -5 and your exponent is 3. I don't know wtf they mean by power, since the power and the exponent are the same thing. Do they just want you to say that the power is cubed, as in -5 cubed? No idea

Same as above. Base is two, exponent is -3. Power is cubed....weird ass teacher.

    2. Simplify to a single power ( 2 each)

2^3 * 2^5 = 2^(3+5) = 2^8 (when two numbers with identical bases are multiplied, the exponents are added)

9^12 (an exponent raised to an exponent is the same as multiplying both exponents together)

4^(-4) (same addition rule as the first one)

(-2)^4 = 2^4 (same multiplication rule as the second one)

Assuming that's a division, the exponents are subtraced, therefore

    (-6)^(5-2) = (-6)^3

Same as above, you add the exponents in the numerator and subtract the denominator from them

    So you have 4^(3+9-6) = 4^6

    8^6

    (-3)^[(3+5)-(8+2)] = (-3)^(-2)

    1/(9^5)

    4^(2-6) = 4(-4) = 1/(4^4)

    C^5 = 3125

    C = 3125^(1/5)

    C = 5

    (C^3)^2 = 4096

    C^6 = 4096

    C = 4096^(1/6)

    C = +4, -4

    There are your two numbers.

I bet that took a lot longer to type then it would just to do the work yourself :P

Look in the book and learn or call a friend who can help. Copying will only help you fail the test

Uh, there's really no point to rewriting them to the smallest bases possible, at least not for A. Either way

    (6^3 * 2^3)^2 = (12^3)^2 = 12^6 = 2985984

    = [ -(2^2 * 2^2 * 2^2)/(2^3 * 2^3)]^-1

    = [-(2^6)/(2^6)] ^-1

    =(-1)^(-1)

    = -1

I know the answer's right on both of 'em. I just don't know if that's what the teacher wants of you. Besides, you SHOULD rewrite these in a more legible manner, since at least part b could be interpreted two ways. There's a difference between (-8)^2 and -8^2. In the first case it's equal to 64, in the second case it's equal to -64.

He probably didn't even type it out. He most likely copied and pasted it from some website.

Are you kidding mate? You are not making any sense here. Do you know the difference between "Exponent" and "Power" ?

    There is no meaningful difference.

2^5 is "two raised to the 5th power," and the exponent is 5.

So why don't YOU tell me the difference, since apparently there is one?

lol they don't teach that sort of stuff at uni anymore, though we did just learn how to count mmm. (Maths student at uni, and i don't know the difference between power and exponent)
Anyways well done, but try to do homework yourself and ask for help when ur stuck. Best if you get someone to show you what to do in the future then just ask for the answers.
