I am making a basic website in Dreamweaver, i've made the basic page, in photoshop, I've sliced it all up and I have 3 buttons (to be) and a content are. Currently there is no specific content as I want to make a template of this page to save time, how? Under template options I tried but I can't edit it, I clicked editable region and saved template again and doesn't work clearly. What am I doing wrong? Can Anyone explain how I make this a template? I just want to make the buttons link, and have the content area as editable layers and make a template of it so I can make a new page which already has the navigation buttons linked up and ready to edit content areas. Thanks to anyone who helps me!
I want to make a template of my page I have now basically, so I can reuse the page I have setup for the other pages.
Yeah it's a nice program to work with! I want to learn HTML though, as if something goes wrong with Dreamweaver, with no knowledge of HTML it can be a big pain in the ass.
I want to learn the whole web hosting/designing all of it, coding etc...one day i will when i have time. Sorry i can't help you with this. <_< Payney.
If you slice up the content boxs correctly then when you open it on dreamweaver you can select the image, delete it and then replace the image as the table background. So they you can put writing onto of it
THats the noobtastic way of doing it. What you really want to do is get a better grasp of html instead of totally depending on dreamweaver. My way of coding templates is too complicated for me to sum up in one post here, so sorry, cant help you, but I dont think you need to go to anything like "template options" or whatever. Just edit the site to the point where you can fill it in with content. As i said, its best to learn a bit of HTML.
Just save it as html and when u re-open it it will give u same thing as u had, iam actualy not sure what u r trying to say :S Merged Post: or just go file>save as template
LOL all of your guys seem to be confused. Ok do this: -> Make new Local Site -> Export your PSD to .html. -> Slice it up in dreamweaver like the content area and such. (which you've done already) -> Save as a template under that site. -> Make the content area an editable region. -> Go to File -> New -> New From Template (something like that can't remember the exact navigation) -> Now fill up your content area and save as a normal html page. -> Do the same for other pages. -> Now if you need to make changes to the design like links to pages, add few tweaks in. Then make sure you do the changes in the template file (.dwt) and after make changes use the Update Pages features to update all of dreamweaver pages which uses that template file Hope this helps.
Okay I sliced in IR, saved as html with images loaded into DW resaved. Then in dreamweaver click the image (big box) which I want content to be 'ontop' of, clicked editable region made it a editable region, then saved as template. Closed that window, went New > Page > Template > Selected my template i'd saved, and went to draw a layer box in the editable region (content box area) and it said I wasn't allowed because it'd have to edit the code locked by the template or something. What did I do wrong?
man it all depends on how you sliced it, there is a certain way to slice things and we can't tell if you sliced it correctly, if you haven't then when i give you the steps they wouldn't make sense, pos a pictue of ow you sliced it plz and then we will go from there if you have msn i can help you better there
You have to make a layer on the content area first. And then make the Editable Region under that layer. Because when you make that image an editable region you can change the image around but not that particular table cell .
