Ok I was playing Gunz, using IE and on AIM at the same time. I use the Ctrl+Alt+Delete thing, and it went back to my desktop.

Gunz always has problems while you are running it and on your desktop at the same time, and my computer froze...and it nearly wiped my computer user account.

I restarted the computer once, and some weird things happened. My entire desktop got wiped, and it put my desktop picture back to one I had awhile ago.

When I went to restart it again...my newest desktop picture appeared, then shut down.

I can't drag any icons to my desktop, it won't accept it. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, I uninstalled Gunz, so that could take no effect now.

Well you see, my user account is still inside the computer somewhere. Whenever I shut down the computer, my old desktop would appear in a quick flash, then it would continue shutting down.

The user account's in there somewhere, I just need to know how to Access it and delete the current one that my computer uses.

You see, everything is working fine. Same speed, and everything, except that it wouldn't let me have icons on my desktop and change my desktop background. That's the problem.

So far, I have gotten 3 solutions, but I want to avoid them...or you'll see.

    1) Sweep harddrive, save programs to disk, install on the new XP

    2) Re-format computer.

    3) system restore

I might do system restore, but
    • Word Documents
    • New pictures saved
    • Photoshop .psd files
    • Newly added favorites
    • Newly added programs
    • any other saved material
will they be wiped at all?

I will donate all my credits and +rep you if you can solve my problem without sweeping the harddrive or screwing things up on the computer.

Are you sure? Because people on a different board said you might lose some stuff.

system restore for the most partt leaves all your files in tact... it just messes w/ windows and what is installed.

When you say 'messes with Windows and what is installed', will that screw up my computer in any way?

it just swaps a few files so it is just about the same as when the restore image was made. it does not ---- up your computer unless it has some major problems. if you do loose anyfiles which I doubt, they would only be the very most recent ones.

    Thanks.

Also, someone on another board said that it could be a spyware/virus that messed my desktop up...
